When the United States version of the Super-powered Registration Act (SRA) became law, several dozen super-powered heroes and villains (including vigilantes, aliens and rogues) went into hiding. The few that didn't registered immediately. Those few that did register were of course lauded for their efforts and paraded about on national TV showing that they were 'following the law'. Those few, after months of training as part of their registration, were then summarily asked to either join a group called 'The Peacekeepers', which was a national 'police' group created for arresting those that didn't register...or carry on with their lives, which, by this time, had been made public for all to see...and decimate.

Several of those that 'carried on' rather than join the Peacekeepers soon found themselves being either persecuted, shamed or ostracized for being different. Rather than allow for this to continue, one particular metahuman, the hero codenamed "Alabama", decided to do something about it - he decided to make his own super team...but not just any super-team; a super team that helps protect those in the southern United States.  The Southern United States, since the end of the Soltan Invasion, received an indifferent level of funding, resources and attention to rebuild and repair from the invasion.

The hero Alabama decided to create this new superhero team, the 'Southern Stars' with a simple motto: 'Protect the South'.  In less than a month, a band of registered heroes joined the Southern Stars and since then have created a true 'down home' super hero team set on helping the innocent and the victims in getting justice as well as protecting them from whatever threats would come to the South.

Over the last few years, the Southern Stars has helped in dozens of natural disasters, major crime operations, helping the homeless, helping the downtrodden, stopping super villains and of course helping the innocents of the Southern United States. The team is as diverse as is their ideology. They fight amongst themselves often, but when they are needed they put aside their differences and do what their motto dictates: Protect the South.

Today, the Southern Stars are still led by Alabama, based out of 'Mason Mansion' in Atlanta, Georgia. The team is very popular, as is their ex-football star-gone-hero, Alabama. The team has worked with other super teams (and unfortunately even with the Peacekeepers) and has become one of the most highly prized resources of the South.
