History

The legend of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves is ancient, but in the modern world that legend has been reborn in blood, greed, and magic.

For centuries, imitators tried to revive the name of the Forty Thieves. None lasted. Most were nothing more than street gangs, smugglers, or disorganized killers trading on an old reputation they had not earned. That changed in the aftermath of the Soltan Invasion of 2000.

As instability spread across the Arabian region, theft, black-market trafficking, and violent opportunism flourished. Out of that chaos rose a ruthless criminal mastermind named Dawid. Seizing control of multiple gangs, Dawid forged them into a single, disciplined organization and revived the infamous title of the 40 Thieves. Under his leadership, the gang was no longer a loose criminal brotherhood. It became a hardened guild of raiders, assassins, infiltrators, and treasure hunters.

Dawid trained his followers mercilessly. Those who survived his methods were rewarded with wealth, status, and access to stolen secrets. Their rise drew the attention of regional authorities, who pursued the gang deep into the western desert of the United Arab Emirates. There, Dawid used ancient Arabian magical relics stolen during his campaigns to uncover and open a hidden stronghold buried beneath the dunes.

That fortress was no ordinary refuge. It was believed to be the long-lost hideout of the original Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.

Within its buried halls, Dawid and his gang discovered forgotten treasure vaults, enchanted relics, and remnants of old desert sorcery. The hidden base became the foundation of a new criminal empire. From there, the 40 Thieves vanished from sight, rebuilding in secret until it was safe to strike again. Some members eventually took their wealth and disappeared into the world, either retiring or being quietly eliminated to preserve the gang’s secrets. Others remained, sharpening their skills and deepening the legend of the organization.

One of the most important turning points in the gang’s modern history came during a raid on the estate of wealthy UAE sheik Sharif Shukr. Dawid and twenty-five thieves assaulted the family compound in a brutal attack. Sharif was killed, but not before taking one of Dawid’s eyes in a final act of defiance.

During the raid, Sharif’s young son was discovered to possess a rare superhuman ability: the power to transform his body into living sand. The boy tried to stop Dawid, but failed. Rather than kill him, Dawid claimed the child as his own prize. He raised the boy through years of cruelty, indoctrination, and brutal training, molding him into one of the guild’s deadliest operatives. Dawid renamed him Mansur and regarded him as his adopted son.

That decision would one day nearly destroy the entire guild.

Years later, Mansur turned against Dawid and the 40 Thieves. Now known as Sandlance, he betrayed the criminal order that had forged him and came close to wiping it out completely. Though the guild survived, the damage was severe, and Dawid has never forgiven the betrayal. To this day, he has placed a massive standing bounty on Mansur’s head.

But the 40 Thieves did not die.

Under Dawid’s command, the guild has rebuilt itself stronger, harsher, and far larger than its name suggests. No longer limited to forty members, the organization now includes a growing network of elite thieves, super-powered operatives, enforcers, traffickers, informants, and enslaved assets bound to Dawid’s will. Their operations now stretch far beyond Arabia, reaching into global black markets, magical artifact smuggling, targeted assassinations, and high-value theft on an international scale.

Today, the 40 Thieves are once again one of the most feared criminal brotherhoods in the world: an empire of desert-born secrecy, ancient magic, and modern ruthlessness. And at its center stands Dawid, one-eyed and unbroken, determined to reclaim everything his adopted son tried to take from him.
