Steven Yates was the son of a deceased Solano Capo, Pierre "Peeps" Yates. The Solano crime family boss, Don Solano, was Steven's godfather. As such, after Steven's father's death, Don Solano took Steven in as if he were his own son. The only issue is that Steven has a sincere learning disability and is uncommonly and overtly over-strong (initially called a 'mongoloid').

At Don Solano's bequest, Steven Yates was renamed and rebaptized as Saul Solano. 'Saul' started off his new position as a two-bit neighborhood protection racketeer/enforcer back in the day. Over the years, Saul rose up in position and has put 'the fear of Solano' in all who negatively cross his path.

Today, 'Smackdown Saul' is one of the key enforcers called on when the customers get 'uppity'.  Saul is known for wrecking stores and homes and vehicles, followed by some serious threats, before he's forced to have to physically harm anyone. He has yet to kill anyone, but dozens of his beatdowns have left people paralyzed or in comas as a result of their encounters with Saul. 

He's not the brightest bulb in the batch, but he is street savvy and will always go to bat for the Solano Family...1000% of the time.
