History

 

Kurio Tashima was once an ordinary, everyday Japanese schoolgirl but is now freely possessed by a dark demonic creature named Bak (that likes to sit on Kurio’s shoulder) that manipulates her for its own dark purposes.

One day, after an early evening sports event in Kashima, Japan, Kurio was walking home with her friends and her little sister, Kiri.  When Kiri saw what she thought was a fat cat running into an old haunted temple,  Kiri chased the 'cat', with Kurio and her friends trying to catch up to her.

In the temple, they found the 'cat' to instead be a cat-like demonic creature that violently clawed Kurio's two friends to death. As the demon was about to kill Kiri, Kurio begged and pleaded with the demon to spare her sister and instead, kill her. Instead, the demon made a pact with Kurio, demanding Kurio to allow it to possess her until 'it was done with its work'. Kurio reluctantly agreed, sparing Kurio's little sister's life. As a side note, ironically, Kiri died a slow, agonizing death resulting from a car accident only a few weeks after Kurio was possessed and taken over.  

Over the next few months, the demon-possessed Kurio hunted down and destroyed shrines and member of benevolent mystical orders throughout the Japanese islands.  One of the few remaining Japanese mystics confronted and defeated the possessed Kurio by separating the two in magical traps.  This effort killed the mystic, however the entrapped Kurio was now left in a coma-like state and the vile cat-like demon in a caged frenzy. In a quickly arranged deal prior to his death, the mystic had G.U.A.R.D. take custody of Kurio and the demon once they were captured.

The comatose Kurio and the demon Bak were sent by GUARD to the United States for study by the mystical superhero Doctor Warder of the American Patrol super-group.  While in custody at the American Patrol’s base in Texas, the comatose Kurio awoke and freed the demon from its trap.  In a violent and deadly battle, the demon-possessed Kurio (now calling itself "Akuma Garu”) escaped and went into hiding in the hovels of the Houston, Texas slums.  While in hiding, Akuma Garu learned enough English to be able to communicate and speak through Kurio to gain food and shelter, killing any that threatened their survival.

A few years ago, a cultist from the villainous Dark Overlords discovered Akuma Garu’s location and brought them to their base of operations known as “The Crypt”, Akuma Garu met a band of old mages that were led by the ruler of the "Dimension of Exile" - the demonic Lord Stygian. Through an inter-dimensional communications portal, Lord Stygian tasked Akuma Garu, testing its loyalty and willingness to become one of his Dark Overlords.  After passing Stygian’s tests, a master mage was sacrificed, allowing  Akuma Garu to be sworn in as one of Lord Stygian’s Dark Overlord Avante Guard, promising Japan and the lands encircling the Sea of Japan to Akuma Garu as reward for its obedience…once Lord Stygian was aided in returning to Earth and making it his own living Hell.

In a sincerely duplicitous moment, the de facto leader of the Dark Overlord's Avante Guard, Mad Halloween Jack, plotted with his new Avante Guard to wrest the massive mystical power of the Dimension of Exiles and use those powers so they themselves could rule Earth, rather than an old exiled demon in another dimension. All the Avante guard agreed and as a result, they were able to destroy most of the beings and magic from the Dimension of Exile, however, an old mage flubbed up the final seconds of the power transition and instead caused the dimension's portal to collapse and the magical energies to roll back into Earth vice the Avante Guard. Regardless, the new Avante Guard, now under the leadership of Mad Halloween Jack, have since renamed themselves the Masters of Malificence, and have once again started on their path to world conquest.

Kurio has not been separated from the demon Bak since that time at GUARD, and to this day, still does not know of the fate of her sister. Bak, however, plots and plans of taking over leadership of the Masters of Maleficence to appease its own dark desire for power and control.

 

Today, Akuma Garu still rampages against the temples and pagodas in Japan at every available opportunity, and works as a member of the Masters of Malifecence. It has also set several plans into motion to make it even more powerful...one such plot is taking over a superhero's body (more to come on that story!).

Powers

 

Power Origin: Kurio Tashima - None; Bak (Bakeneko Cat Demon) - )Magic

 

Bak

Bak is a Bakeneko Cat Demon that is over 450 years old from Japan.  It despises any form of religion other than its own 'Order of Bak' (which is chaos-based).  It is a  small, 2 foot long, black and white fat, cat-like demon with an evil grin (think Alice in Wonderland’s ‘Cheshire Cat’ grin).

  • Bak-Innate Abilities:

    • Capabilities

      • good fighting, excellent agility, poor strength, incredible endurance, good reasoning, incredible intuition, and remarkable psyche.

    • Jumping

      • Can leap up to 15 feet across, 10 feet up and  30 feet down.

    • Vision

      • Can see into normal light, infra red and night vision spectrum

    • Prehensile Tail

      • Can grab and hold things with tail at poor strength

    • Claws & Teeth

      • Can bite or claw a person for typical edged attack damage.

    • Protection

      • Has good defenses against temperate, magical and energy attacks

      • Has remarkable defenses against psychic/mental attacks

  • Bak's Magical Powers:

    • Stealth

      • It's dark magic and fur create a blurred field around it, even in daylight, giving it excellent stealth.

    • Possession

      • Has the good psyche power to possess an animal, person or being of equal or lesser psyche.

      • Due to Bak's lack of control, the host can attempt to regain control from Bak every minute of time, however, if Bak is given 'total' or 'free' control of the host, the host is powerless to perform any attempts at regaining control for as much as once a year (unearthly level mental control).

      • Usually fully possesses one being at a time, but if not already possessing a being, it can partially attempt mental control of up to three beings for only minute at a time each (being can try to regain control every minute).

      • When possessed, the host/controlled beings have an orange-like aura/hue about them.

    • Host magical channeling/enhancement

      • Bak can channel its arcane powers through a host, or ‘possessed’ body (since its body can’t survive the raw effects of the stressful use of its dark, magical powers), allowing the host to perform magical abilities, controlled through Bak, at 2x the host's psyche ability; the more power psyche of the host the more powerful the host's channeled magical powers become (max=amazing psyche levels).

  • Bak's Favorite spells:

    • Demonic conversion

      • Turns a person into a demon-like creature, taking on demonesque features, abilities and powers.

    • Arcane Whip

      • Host can use a magically empowered whip as a melee/short ranged weapon

      • Host can use the whip to channel an additional level of power to others possessed by Bak. Theses enhancements increased fighting, agility, strength and endurance, as well as each demon's innate powers by a factor of 1 for a total of 30 seconds.

    • Teleportation

      • Can teleport itself, host and other possessed beings up to 10 miles from point of origin. Can only do this once per minute.

    • Arcane Fire

      • Can use to heal (cauterize) wounds for self and allies, even to resurrect allies who have been dead less than five minutes, up to 20 yards away.

      • Can be used as a personal thermal shield, providing excellent thermal, physical, energy, radiation and magical protection.

      • Can be used to project to a target up to 20 yards away and 'melt' armor and or metals of up to remarkable materials; can also , with concentration, permanently drop armor/metal durability down one rank if the armor/metal is between remarkable and fantastic strengths

      • Can project arcane shields to others individually or as a group up to 20 yards away. Last for about 20 seconds.
