Social infiltration, financial cultivation, criminal liaison, and combat healing
Nightlife host and private-event coordinator
CHARACTER SUMMARY
Vanessa “Nessa” Varela, known as Virgo, cultivates influence for the Order of the Zodiac from her base in Paris, France. A poised and seductive mutant, she combines social manipulation, skilled martial arts, healing, and energy projection. Her treatments permanently repair injuries while providing extraordinary relief from old aches—comfort that fades within twenty-four hours, leaving recipients eager to experience it again. Virgo turns that desire into favors, financing, and loyalty. Her unusually close, undefined connection with Cancer offers a rare glimpse of affection beyond the bargain.
HISTORY
Vanessa Varela learned early that access depended on making the right people want her nearby. Working in Los Angeles nightlife and private events, she became skilled at remembering preferences, managing egos, and making carefully divided attention feel intensely personal. She moved comfortably among wealthy patrons, entertainers, event workers, and people whose business was best left unmentioned.
Her mutant abilities gave her something far more valuable than an invitation list.
Vanessa discovered that she could heal injuries and relieve physical suffering. Treatment also produced an extraordinary sense of comfort: old aches quieted, lingering discomfort faded, and recipients felt better than they had in years. The injuries she repaired stayed repaired. Within twenty-four hours, however, discomfort from underlying chronic conditions she had not corrected returned.
People began asking when they could see her again.
Initially, Vanessa accepted gifts and favors from grateful recipients. Over time, she learned to cultivate their anticipation. Private appointments became privileges. Preferential treatment became a reward. Her attention, charm, and healing gradually became parts of the same transaction.
She did not need to control anyone’s mind. She could offer something they wanted badly enough to negotiate away their own objections.
As her clientele expanded into criminal circles, Vanessa developed considerable influence over people who ordinarily considered themselves beyond anyone’s reach. She supplemented her abilities with sustained martial arts, acrobatics, and escape training, ensuring that a disappointed client could not easily make her a captive resource.
Aries recognized the value of someone who could restore injured operatives, cultivate financiers, and make powerful outsiders eager to remain useful. Membership in the Order offered Vanessa protection, a larger network, and opportunities beyond anything she could build alone. She accepted the identity of Virgo and embraced the Order’s promise of correction, particularly where it justified removing people who obstructed its ambitions.
By 2026, Virgo operates from Paris, France. Its international private-event, luxury, and nightlife circles provide opportunities to cultivate influential patrons, intermediaries, and potential Zodiac financiers. Drawing on her Los Angeles experience and conversational French, she arranges exclusive introductions and discreet healing appointments.
A financier might receive a private treatment before being approached for another contribution. A criminal associate might discover that access becomes less convenient after refusing a request. She rarely states the entire bargain aloud. Within the Order, her methods are subtler. She can make a teammate feel understood while suggesting that someone else is responsible for withholding relief. An actual restriction, an exaggerated instruction, or a carefully implied grievance can all serve her purposes. She wants greater discretion over her work—and understands how grateful allies might help her obtain it.
Cancer occupies an unusual place in her life. The two women are deeply sympatico, frequently reaching the same conclusion without needing to discuss it. Their comfortable proximity, private remarks, and instinctive attention to one another carry an intimacy neither formally defines. They are not an established romantic couple, although others have reason to wonder. Virgo sometimes offers Cancer relief without bargaining or seeking recognition. Their closeness does not make either woman less dangerous; it can encourage them to validate grievances and quietly close ranks. For Virgo, however, it is a connection she risks damaging if she treats it entirely as another instrument of influence. Their affinity allows room for independent judgment, making disagreements significant precisely because agreement usually comes so easily.
Personality
Poised, seductive, observant, and calculating, Virgo enjoys being desired and values being needed. She adapts her approach to the individual, using flirtation, discretion, reassurance, or apparent vulnerability as circumstances warrant. She knows when to offer attention and when to withdraw it.
Her chief weakness is confusing another person’s appetite for her treatment with devotion to her personally. Someone who willingly endures discomfort rather than accept her terms can wound her pride more deeply than an insult.
POWERS
EMPATHY HEALING
Virgo channels mutant energy to repair damage and restore physical well-being.
-
Targeted Healing: Excellent; restores 20 Health points per turn, with a range of 8 areas.
-
Area Healing: Typical; restores 6 Health points per turn within a 1-area radius.
-
Coverage: Physical, energy, thermal, and toxin damage.
-
Exclusions: Magic and psychic damage.
Virgo can selectively offer or withhold treatment. Her healing abilities do not establish medical training, resurrection, or the ability to cure every disease or underlying chronic condition.
PLEASURABLE RELIEF
Receiving Virgo’s healing feels exceptionally pleasant. In addition to repairing applicable damage, treatment temporarily quiets longstanding physical aches and pains within her healing coverage. Recipients can experience an extraordinary sense of comfort, refreshment, and freedom from discomfort.
The repaired damage remains healed. Within 24 hours, discomfort from underlying conditions she has not corrected returns. Healed wounds do not reopen, and previous damage is not restored.
Recipients may develop a powerful desire to repeat the experience. This craving does not automatically constitute chemical addiction, create a new withdrawal illness, compel obedience, or override independent judgment. Its influence depends on the individual’s discomfort, desires, and willingness to accept Virgo’s terms.
Virgo understands this distinction and exploits it. She selectively offers, delays, or withholds treatment, allowing anticipation and remembered pleasure to strengthen her influence over financiers, criminal associates, and others seeking access.
This effect does not increase her healing ranks, range, or recovery rate. Her healing does not inherently require her to absorb another person’s wounds or pain.
ENERGY BLASTS
Virgo projects concentrated bursts of mutant energy.
-
Damage: Excellent energy damage.
-
Range: 10 areas.
-
Rate: One shot every two turns.
Her energy projection and healing are innate mutant abilities and require no technological focus. The interval between blasts makes her martial arts and mobility important parts of her fighting style.
EQUIPMENT
ZODIAC FIELD ATTIRE
Virgo wears a flexible, sleeveless, high-neck brown combat jumpsuit with beige side panels and narrow gold piping. A gold belt bears her Virgo glyph, complemented by matching brown forearm bracers with gold edging and knee-high brown heeled boots.
Her attire accommodates mobility, acrobatics, and close combat while presenting the polished appearance she favors in influential social circles. No armor rank or additional protection is assigned to the outfit.
SECURE COMMUNICATOR
A secure communicator allows Virgo to coordinate with Zodiac personnel. It provides no independent sensory or mental abilities.
PERSONAL EFFECTS
Virgo carries a phone and ordinary accessories appropriate to the social setting or identity she is presenting. Her powers are innate and do not depend on her belt, bracers, emblem, or other equipment.
TALENTS
PARTY SCENE
Virgo excels in nightlife, private events, and socially competitive environments. She recognizes status, manages introductions, and makes useful people feel personally valued. These skills support her cultivation of financiers and criminal contacts.
Original modifier: +2 POP in applicable circumstances.
ACROBATICS
Trained balance, controlled movement, tumbling, and evasive maneuvering support Virgo’s combat mobility and ability to negotiate physical obstacles.
Original modifier: +2 A for applicable acrobatic actions.
FOCUSED OBSERVATION
Given time to study a person or situation, Virgo becomes more effective at recognizing patterns, motives, and likely behavior. This represents focused observation rather than telepathy or supernatural emotional control.
Original mechanic: After three rounds of focused review, she receives +2 I for three rounds.
MARTIAL ARTS
Virgo is a practiced close-combat fighter whose capabilities extend well beyond her social persona and healing abilities. Her training supports disciplined attacks, defense, and effective action between energy blasts.
Original modifier: +1 F for applicable martial arts actions.
ESCAPES
Virgo is trained to escape holds, restraints, and confinement, reducing the likelihood that someone seeking her abilities can keep her as a captive resource.
Original modifier: +1 A/E, as applicable.

The original RPG profile lists “Slam/Stun” without specifying its application. The notation is retained without assigning an additional bonus or automatic result.
