SPECIES

Vaelith are a native species from the planet Vaelithia now believed to be extinct due to the Soltan Star Empire's atrocities.

The following is a list of the various species in their genus:

VAELITH PRIME

The Vaelith Prime are a long-lived, bio-adaptive amphibian-descended humanoid species best suited to humid environments and capable of extraordinary biological restructuring.

Distinguished by blue moist skin, iridescent mottling, flowing sensory plumage, and subtle amphibian features, they are both elegant and resilient.

Their greatest strengths lie in adaptation, concealment, and controlled physiology.

Their greatest weaknesses are dehydration, arid stress, repeated biomorphic strain, and chemical destabilization. In the modern era, they stand as one of the galaxy’s most tragic and endangered peoples.

HISTORY

The Vaelith were once a graceful and highly adaptive people native to the world of Vaelithia, a blue-green planet of vast wetlands, mist-heavy coastlines, inland seas, luminous marshes, and dense humid forests. Their civilization was not one of brute conquest or galactic empire, but of refinement, environmental harmony, and biological mastery. Long before their fall, the Vaelith became known among neighboring systems as a patient, thoughtful species whose greatest strengths lay in adaptation, discipline, memory, and living science.

Though advanced in biological understanding, medicine, and environmental engineering, the Vaelith were not a major interstellar power. Their technology had only recently entered the earliest phases of space travel, and their off-world reach extended no farther than their own planetary neighborhood and the four moons of Vaelithia. They had not built war-fleets. They had not carved colonies across the stars. They had not prepared for the kind of horror that would eventually find them.

That horror came in the form of the Soltan Star Empire.

When the Soltans invaded Vaelithia, they did not come as explorers, diplomats, or even conquerors content with military victory. They came as plunderers, dominators, and butchers. To the Soltans, the Vaelith were valuable not merely as a species to subjugate, but as a biological resource to exploit. Once the invaders understood the Vaelith gift for bio-morphing, they recognized its military and espionage value immediately.

The Vaelith were rounded up by the millions.

Entire population centers were broken open. Coastal sanctuaries, moon-settlements, biological archives, and sacred marsh-cities were overrun. Families were separated, scholars and healers were imprisoned, and enormous numbers of Vaelith were subjected to systematic abuse, experimentation, torture, and enslavement. The Soltans forced captive Vaelith to biomorph into other species and identities, using them as infiltrators, spies, decoys, and controlled agents against neighboring civilizations. Many were broken physically. Many were broken psychologically. Countless others died in laboratories, camps, containment cells, or in failed forced transformations carried out for Soltan military gain.

Yet the Vaelith did not submit quietly.

For all their reputation as a contemplative and biologically refined people, the Vaelith proved capable of fierce resistance when pushed to extinction. Fragments of their civic leadership, moon-settlement crews, hidden scholars, biomorphic adepts, and desperate civilians formed rebel networks across their dying world. They sabotaged transport routes, freed prisoners where they could, destroyed research centers, assassinated collaborators, and turned their gift for adaptation into a weapon of survival. In the darkness of occupation, the Vaelith became ghosts in their own homeland.

But they were not built for total war on the scale the Soltans imposed.

The rebellion was savage, brave, and tragically brief. In less than a single Vaelith solar cycle, organized resistance was effectively shattered. Entire resistance pockets were burned out. Moon colonies were raided and depopulated. Wetland cities were chemically stripped. Archives were looted. Temples, memory vaults, and biological repositories were reduced to ash, slag, or silence. Those who could flee did. Those who could hide vanished into myth. Those who were captured were often forced back into slavery, their bodies and abilities turned against other worlds.

The destruction of Vaelithia did not end with conquest.

The Soltans raped the planet of value with merciless thoroughness. They pillaged settlements, stripped technology, harvested or destroyed anything of scientific or strategic use, and—most catastrophically—drained the world of its magical energies. Whatever natural and mystical current once moved through Vaelithia’s ecosystems was ripped away, leaving ecological collapse in its wake. Wetlands dried. once-luminous flora blackened and died. Entire biological chains unraveled. Forests withered. Inland waters grew stagnant or poisonous. What had once been a living world of beauty and balance was reduced to a wounded, failing shell.

The effects were immediate - mentally and physically. Nearly all the Vaelith left on their home planet died from disease, starvation and dehydration. Some simply gave up and wandered into the wastelands to die, sometimes as entire families. They'd rather die on their own terms than at the hands of the Soltans.

Millions of Vaelith died as a result.

Today, Vaelithia is barely hospitable.

There is no surviving planetary government. No known functioning population centers remain. What endures are ruins, poisoned landscapes, dead or dying marshlands, shattered moon installations, and the haunted remnants of a civilization that never had the chance to become what it might have been.

The surviving Vaelith are scattered across the galaxy in fragments of suffering and secrecy or in underground caves on their home planet.

Most known survivors fall into only a few categories:

  • former or current slaves still used by the Soltans or others as biological infiltrators

  • refugees in deep hiding, often living under assumed forms and identities

  • captives embedded as spies within other civilizations

  • isolated remnants who escaped destruction but now live underground in secrecy, exile, or ruin

It is believed that fewer than 5,000 Vaelith remain alive.

Among those survivors, a grim oath has spread from remnant to remnant: that the Vaelith will one day destroy the Soltan Star Empire, punish all who aided in the destruction of Vaelithia, and exact justice upon any power that enslaved, trafficked, or exploited their people. To many surviving Vaelith, this is no longer merely vengeance. It is the last binding purpose left to a broken species.

At the same time, the Vaelith are said to possess unusually long memories for kindness. Any people, world, or individual who gave them refuge, protected them, concealed them, or treated them as persons rather than tools are often remembered as eternal allies. A Vaelith may hide for decades, but it does not easily forget who offered mercy when mercy was rare.

That duality now defines the species.

To their enemies, the Vaelith are remnants of a conquered people who should have disappeared into slavery and ash.

To their allies, they are one of the galaxy’s great tragedies: a beautiful, adaptive, intelligent species nearly erased before it truly reached the stars.

To themselves, they are something harsher still—

the last witnesses of Vaelithia, carrying memory, grief, and obligation across a galaxy that largely failed them.

The Vaelith once looked to their four moons and dreamed of what lay beyond them.

Now the stars hold only ruins, hunters, hidden survivors, and unfinished vengeance.

INHERENT ABILITIES

Powers and Abilities

The Vaelith are a long-lived, bio-adaptive humanoid species whose natural abilities are rooted in advanced biological control, physiological efficiency, and environmental adaptability. Their powers are not mystical in the conventional sense, nor are they technological augmentations. Rather, they are an inherent expression of Vaelith biology, refined over generations into one of the species’ defining evolutionary strengths.

Though individual capability can vary, the Vaelith as a species possess a number of notable natural powers and advantages.

Bio-Morphing Physiology

The defining trait of the Vaelith is their ability to bio-morph—the controlled biological restructuring of their bodies at the cellular, muscular, skeletal, and organ-system levels.

This allows a Vaelith to:

  • alter facial structure and body shape

  • change skin texture, pigmentation, and visible age cues

  • modify musculature and overall physical presentation

  • mimic organ placement and internal biological signatures

  • sustain long-term alternate forms

  • adapt their appearance to resemble other humanoid species, including humans

This is not illusion or holography. It is true biological transformation.

Approximate biomorph timing

  • Minor adjustments: minutes to hours

  • Moderate restructuring: several hours to 1–2 days

  • Full stable alternate form: approximately 2–7 days

Once a new form is fully stabilized, it can usually be maintained for extended periods with relatively low ongoing strain.

Adaptive Biological Masking

Vaelith possess unusually fine control over their internal biological processes.

This allows them to regulate:

  • pulse

  • respiration

  • body temperature

  • hormonal patterns

  • stress chemistry

  • pain response

  • subtle biochemical indicators

As a result, a biomorphed Vaelith can be extraordinarily difficult to expose through conventional medical scans, biosensors, or routine forensic examination.

Enhanced Sensory Function

Vaelith possess sensory capabilities somewhat superior to normal human baselines, particularly in environments that resemble their native biological conditions.

Their natural advantages may include:

  • improved low-light vision

  • heightened motion awareness

  • increased environmental sensitivity in mist, rain, fog, and darkness

  • better perception of subtle biological or atmospheric changes

These traits make them particularly effective in dim, humid, or unstable environments.

Adaptive Respiration

Vaelith physiology is highly efficient in oxygen processing and breath regulation.

This gives them:

  • superior breath control

  • better tolerance for low-oxygen environments

  • increased resilience in smoke-heavy or moisture-heavy air

  • greater endurance in wet, flooded, or partially submerged conditions

This amphibian-leaning respiratory efficiency is one of their most practical survival traits.

Controlled Tissue Recovery

Vaelith bodies can direct internal resources toward recovery and survival more efficiently than ordinary humans.

This may allow:

  • improved bleeding control

  • somewhat accelerated healing of minor injuries

  • reduced bruising or trauma response

  • enhanced pain suppression under stress

  • more effective recovery from moderate physical strain

This does not amount to extreme regeneration, but it does make Vaelith more difficult to incapacitate than many comparable humanoids.

Microstructural Reconfiguration

Even after achieving a stable alternate form, a Vaelith may retain the ability to perform extremely subtle biological modifications.

These may include changes to:

  • fingerprints

  • skin texture

  • pore distribution

  • scar visibility

  • eye coloration nuances

  • small facial details

  • minor vocal or throat structures

This capacity makes Vaelith especially hard to identify, track, or confirm through conventional forensic methods.

Short-Duration Physical Surges

Under extreme stress, some Vaelith may be capable of directing their biology into brief bursts of heightened physical performance.

These short-duration surges may include:

  • increased reaction speed

  • improved grip strength

  • bursts of agility

  • enhanced evasive movement

These effects are limited and can become physiologically taxing if overused.

Amphibian-Adapted Mobility

In their natural form, Vaelith are particularly well-suited to:

  • slippery terrain

  • wet ground

  • marsh and shoreline movement

  • unstable footing

  • damp, uneven environmental conditions

Their balance, posture, and environmental adaptability make them naturally graceful in conditions many species would find difficult.

Moisture-Retention Skin Chemistry

Vaelith skin naturally regulates and preserves moisture through subtle biochemical means.

This allows:

  • better tolerance for moisture loss over short periods

  • protection of skin integrity in variable climates

  • a limited protective biofilm effect in healthy environmental conditions

This trait contributes both to their resilience and to their vulnerability when deprived of proper environmental balance.

Longevity

Vaelith are exceptionally long-lived.

  • Average natural lifespan: approximately 180 to 240 Earth years

Their aging process is gradual and does not follow a purely human pattern. Early and middle adulthood may remain physically stable for long spans of time, while visible aging often occurs much later.

Weaknesses

Despite their remarkable adaptability, the Vaelith are not invulnerable. Their biology has several notable limitations and vulnerabilities, especially when removed from the humid, life-rich conditions for which their species evolved.

Prolonged Dehydration

This is one of the greatest physiological weaknesses of the Vaelith.

Extended dehydration can:

  • reduce concentration

  • impair tissue control

  • weaken healing efficiency

  • increase physical fatigue

  • destabilize biomorphic precision

Severe dehydration can place significant strain on both natural and assumed forms.

Extended Arid Heat Exposure

Although Vaelith can survive outside their preferred climate range, prolonged exposure to extreme dry heat is highly stressful to their biology.

This can result in:

  • accelerated dehydration

  • impaired physical efficiency

  • reduced biomorphic precision

  • increased metabolic fatigue

  • greater strain on recovery systems

Deserts, severe drought conditions, and low-humidity heat are especially taxing over time.

Biomorphic Fatigue

Repeated major biological changes within a short span can place extreme strain on a Vaelith’s system.

Overuse of biomorphing may cause:

  • pain

  • fatigue

  • slowed transformation precision

  • tissue instability

  • recovery delays

  • subtle physiological errors

Vaelith biomorphing is strongest when changes are deliberate, stabilized, and not repeatedly forced under intense pressure.

Chemical Destabilizers

Certain compounds may interfere with Vaelith biological regulation.

These may include:

  • industrial solvents

  • oxidizing agents

  • anti-morphic chemical compounds

  • specialized restraint agents

  • alien-designed biochemical disruptors

Such substances may not instantly reveal a Vaelith’s true form, but they can disrupt cellular control and place heavy strain on biomorphic stability.

Electrolyte Imbalance

Because Vaelith physiology depends heavily on moisture regulation and mineral balance, severe electrolyte disruption can negatively affect:

  • muscle efficiency

  • stamina

  • concentration

  • coordination

  • biomorphic control

This is particularly dangerous when combined with dehydration or prolonged environmental stress.

Severe Emotional Shock

Because Vaelith biomorphing requires precise biological control, extreme psychological destabilization can interfere with fine physiological regulation.

Under intense emotional shock, a Vaelith may experience:

  • minor skin-texture irregularities

  • abnormal eye response

  • altered temperature control

  • voice inconsistencies

  • subtle involuntary shifts in biomorphic precision

These effects are not usually catastrophic on their own, but they can create vulnerability during already dangerous situations.

Limited Direct Offensive Power

Although Vaelith possess many adaptive advantages, their species is not naturally built around overt destructive force.

They generally do not possess:

  • energy projection

  • extreme raw strength

  • invulnerability

  • massive regenerative capacity

  • large-scale offensive biological weaponry

Their greatest strengths lie in adaptation, survival, concealment, control, and resilience, not spectacle or brute-force devastation.
