The Sistarians

Selgate was born — or more accurately, came into being — among the Sistarians, an advanced psychic-energy species whose civilization understood consciousness differently than humans do.

​

To the Sistarians, thought was not merely internal speech. Memory was not simply stored information. Emotion was not a weakness separate from reason. Their culture was built around resonance, shared memory fields, communal identity, and carefully bounded psychic contact.

​

Sistarian society treated mental contact as sacred. Entering another mind without permission was considered a violation so severe that it was compared not to theft, but to burning a home while its family slept inside.

​

Selgate’s early existence was shaped by this ethic. She was not raised to view psychic ability as power over others. She was raised to view it as responsibility between beings.

​

That belief survived even when her civilization did not.

​

The Soltan Decimation

The Soltans shattered the Sistarian people.

​

Their attack was not only physical. It was cognitive, cultural, and spiritual. The Soltans understood that the Sistarians were bound together through psychic continuity, memory architecture, and emotional resonance. They did not merely kill Sistarian bodies or energy-forms; they attacked the roads by which Sistarians remembered one another.

​

For Selgate, the destruction of her people was not experienced as a single tragedy. It was experienced as the collapse of an entire living chorus.

​

Where humans might remember the dead as individuals, Selgate remembers a civilization as silence.

​

She and her sister Psygate survived. That survival became both gift and burden. Each carried the same grief, but they did not choose the same path.

​

Psygate’s Departure

Psygate, Selgate’s only surviving sister, left to fight the Soltans elsewhere.

​

Selgate has never condemned her for that choice.

​

She understands it.

​

Psygate’s grief became pursuit. Selgate’s grief became guardianship. One sister carried the war outward. The other remained where another young world stood at risk of repeating the same mistakes: fear, militarization, psychic exploitation, and the transformation of trauma into policy.

​

Psygate’s absence remains Selgate’s deepest private wound after the loss of Sistar itself. She does not know whether her sister still fights, still lives, or has become something shaped beyond recognition by the war she chose.

​

Selgate rarely speaks of this directly. When she does, her voice becomes quieter, not colder.

​

Arrival Among Terrans

Selgate’s early contact with Earth and GUARD was complicated. Humanity had recently endured the Soltan Invasion, and fear of alien mental powers was not irrational. It was raw, recent, and politically explosive.

​

Selgate represented too many things at once:

• an alien survivor

• a psychic entity

• a Soltan witness

• a potential intelligence asset

• a possible security threat

• a moral responsibility

​

Early GUARD did not know how to categorize her. Some saw her as a refugee. Some saw her as a weapon. Some saw her as proof that alien psychic warfare could return. Some feared that kindness toward her might expose Earth to cognitive compromise.

​

Selgate endured suspicion because she understood where it came from. That did not make the suspicion harmless.

​

The Early GUARD Failure

In GUARD’s early post-Soltan years, Selgate was handled with caution that often crossed into over-control. Psychic dampening procedures, isolation protocols, restricted movement, and command-level fear shaped some of her early interactions with human authorities.

​

Some of these decisions were made by people trying to protect GUARD. Others were made by people protecting themselves from what they did not understand.

​

Modern GUARD does not erase this history. It treats it as an institutional failure from an earlier era: a time when fear of psychic violation led to policies that nearly became violations themselves.

​

Selgate did not rebel against GUARD. She did not seek revenge against humanity for its fear. Instead, she remembered.

​

That memory would later help shape PSIGUARD’s modern doctrine.

​

The Selgate Interface Body

As GUARD’s understanding of psychic-energy beings matured, ASTROGUARD, PSIGUARD, and specialized GUARD engineering teams developed the Selgate Interface Body.

​

This body was not designed as a prison.

​

It was designed as a bridge.

​

Selgate’s natural state as a psychic consciousness made ordinary interaction with humans difficult and, in some cases, risky. Her presence could overload sensitive systems, unintentionally radiate emotional or psychic pressure, or trigger fear responses in personnel already traumatized by alien psionic threats.

​

The android body gave Selgate:

• stable physical presence

• controlled psychic emission

• safer communication with humans

• mobility through GUARD facilities

• access to human-scale tools and environments

• emotional expression through posture, movement, and gesture

• a way to participate without overwhelming those around her

​

Selgate chose continued use of the body because it allowed her to meet humans at a boundary they could understand.

​

That choice matters.

The body is not what contains her.

It is how she consents to be present.

​

Transition Into Modern PSIGUARD

Older versions of PSIGUARD relied too heavily on psychic personnel and alien advisors without enough process around them. Some early practices saved lives, but they also created ethical problems that later reformers could not ignore.

​

When Dr. Amara Voss became Commander of PSIGUARD, Selgate’s role was formally restructured.

​

She would no longer be treated as a command authority, routine scanner, or emergency shortcut. Instead, she became a Senior Extraterrestrial Psi Advisor — a role with immense value but clear limits.

​

Voss did not diminish Selgate.

​

She protected her from being misused.

​

Under Voss’s command, Selgate advises on:

• alien cognitive structures

• Soltan psionic residue

• non-Terran mind-pattern interpretation

• first-contact cognitive risks

• psychic-energy consciousness

• alien trauma patterns

• interspecies communication failure

• psionic contamination risks

• cases where human assumptions may produce dangerous conclusions

Selgate accepted the new role not as demotion, but as correction.

​

She had no desire to command humans’ access to one another’s minds.

​

Modern Role in GUARD

Today, Selgate is one of GUARD’s most valuable alien-psionic advisors. Her expertise is rare enough that even senior GUARD leaders do not request her involvement lightly.

​

She is called when PSIGUARD, ASTROGUARD, Intelligence, or SSIIC encounters something that does not fit Terran cognitive models. In those moments, Selgate provides what no human psychic, analyst, or machine can reliably offer: lived experience with forms of consciousness Earth has barely begun to understand.

​

She is especially important in Soltan-related cases. Selgate can identify patterns that GUARD systems might classify only as “unknown psionic interference.” To her, those patterns are not unknown.

​

They are scars she recognizes.

​

Still, Selgate remains bound by Voss’s doctrine and SSIIC oversight. She does not scan without authorization. She does not enter minds without consent unless catastrophic emergency authority has been invoked. She does not treat grief as permission.

​

That restraint is what makes her trusted.
