CHARACTER SUMMARY
Nadim Sayegh, known as Libra, is the Order of the Zodiac’s refined Arcane negotiator and battlefield controller. Raised within the Conglomerate beneath Stonehenge, he now operates from a posh residence in Greenwich, England. His paired orange and purple hexes redistribute physical forces, relieving one subject while making another bear the burden. Courteous, calculating, and convinced that stability requires informed supervision, Libra supports Aries’s objectives while increasingly believing he should control the conditions under which they are pursued.

HISTORY
Nadim Sayegh grew up within the Conglomerate magical society, several hundred feet beneath Stonehenge in England. Substantially removed from the everyday life of the wider human world, he received an education grounded in disciplined magical practice and careful consideration of consequences. His family preserved its Lebanese and Swiss heritage, but his formative loyalties belonged to the community that raised him.
He proved patient, socially perceptive, and unusually interested in the relationships that made complicated workings succeed. Where another student might concentrate on producing a greater effect, Nadim wanted to understand why one part of a working bore more strain than another—and whether that burden could be moved.
His Arcane studies developed into a specialty in force redistribution. Through paired hexes, he learned to connect physical subjects and transfer loads, momentum, and mechanical stresses between them. Success depended on understanding both ends of the relationship. Relieving one subject meant requiring another to bear the consequence.
Nadim found that principle satisfying.
His appointment as a scout brought him into sustained contact with ordinary human civilization. Over several years, he observed its institutions, cultivated useful relationships, and learned to move comfortably among people unfamiliar with the society that had raised him.
He enjoyed much of what he encountered. Food, architecture, music, humor, and the ingenuity of people working with limited means fascinated him. His observations were attentive rather than uniformly hostile. He could admire a community’s resilience while questioning the arrangements that made such resilience necessary.
What increasingly troubled him was repetition.
He watched agreements collapse over disputes that could have been settled. He saw institutions protect their own failures, leaders reward loyalty over competence, and powerful interests preserve profitable instability. People recognized problems, discussed them at length, and still resisted the concessions required to resolve them.
Nadim began approaching these failures as he would an unstable Arcane working: identify the relationships, locate the strain, and alter the distribution.
He became skilled at mediation. Initially, he helped opposing parties find arrangements they could accept. As his confidence grew, he began deciding what they ought to accept. When persuasion failed, he became more willing to create the pressure that made his preferred settlement attractive.
Each successful intervention strengthened his conviction that he understood the conditions for stability better than those living within them.
His association with Aries gave that conviction a larger purpose. Nadim saw in the Order of the Zodiac the coordination and reach that he believed conventional institutions lacked. He joined willingly, adopting the identity of Libra and placing his Arcane specialty at the Order’s disposal.
By 2026, Libra operates from a posh private residence in Greenwich, England, his assigned city within the Order’s Twelve-City framework. His home provides a refined setting for private negotiations, Arcane study, and operational preparation.
He serves the Order as a negotiator, planner, and controller of battlefield conditions. He can cultivate an outside alliance, identify the concession needed to preserve it, and help ensure that the Order enters a confrontation on favorable terms.
Libra supports Aries’s leadership, but increasingly distinguishes her authority to set objectives from his own perceived responsibility to determine how those objectives can safely be achieved. He presents objections carefully and usually seeks agreement first. When overruled, however, he may conclude that obedience would be irresponsible.
What begins as adjusting a timetable or preserving an overlooked resource can become an unauthorized alteration to an entire operation. Libra regards such intervention as stewardship. His growing tendency to decide which instructions deserve compliance threatens the very order he claims to protect.
PERSONALITY
Libra is cultured, attentive, articulate, and quietly ambitious. His courtesy is often sincere. He enjoys good company, asks thoughtful questions, and makes people feel that their position has received serious consideration.
He prefers durable arrangements to impulsive victories. He can tolerate an objectionable person if that person remains useful to a stable system, and he can deny a sympathetic person what they deserve if granting it would disrupt that system.
His central flaw is confidence in his own impartiality. He understands that other people have competing interests, but increasingly assumes that understanding those interests qualifies him to decide their acceptable losses.
Once invested in an arrangement, he becomes reluctant to admit that it should end. He asks for further concessions, redistributes additional burdens, and preserves structures that no longer deserve preservation.
Someone who refuses to bargain—and willingly accepts loss rather than his terms—can provoke an unusually personal response.

POWERS
ARCANE FORCE REDISTRIBUTION
Libra uses learned Arcane magic to establish temporary connections between physical subjects. These paired workings allow him to redistribute weight-bearing loads, momentum, and mechanical impact.
-
Operating Rank: Incredible (40).
-
Range: Both subjects must remain within 8 areas of Libra.
-
Simultaneous Connections: Up to three linked pairs.
-
Load Capacity: Approximately 10 tons under ordinary Earth gravity, shared across his active workings.
Redirecting violent impacts or rapidly changing momentum requires greater effort than maintaining a steady load and may demand a power FEAT.
His magic acts upon physical forces. It does not transfer memories, skills, injuries, age, morality, luck, life energy, or personal destiny.
PAIRED HEXES
Each connection uses two matching geometric Arcane hexes.
-
Orange: Marks the subject surrendering force.
-
Purple: Marks the subject receiving force.
The colors indicate the direction of transfer, regardless of who benefits. A protected ally may carry an orange hex while a reinforced surface bears purple. An opponent receiving an unwanted load may also bear purple.
The hexes brighten during casting or adjustment and become subdued while maintained. No continuous beam is required between them.
COUNTERWEIGHT
Libra transfers some or all of a subject’s effective weight-bearing load to another subject.
He can lighten equipment, relieve a burdened teammate, or allow a heavy object to cross a vulnerable surface. The recipient must bear the transferred load: a vehicle’s suspension compresses, a floor strains, or another person struggles beneath the additional burden.
This does not alter either subject’s actual mass, grant independent flight, or eliminate inertia.
MOMENTUM EXCHANGE
Libra can reduce a subject’s movement by transferring momentum into another linked subject, directing the resulting motion within his control limits.
He might slow a charging opponent while propelling an unattended object into the opponent’s path, or redirect part of a falling object’s momentum into a suitable receiving structure.
He cannot manufacture unlimited acceleration or direct force without a recipient. Sudden, high-speed events are more difficult to handle than movement he has anticipated.
IMPACT DISTRIBUTION
Libra can divert part of a mechanical impact into another linked object or spread it across a suitable receiving surface.
This can reduce the force delivered to a teammate or vulnerable structure. The receiving subject still experiences the transferred stress and may be damaged.
This is active protection requiring an established connection and awareness of the attack. It is not permanent body armor.
EQUILIBRIUM DISRUPTION
By changing the load borne by a person’s body, equipment, or supporting surface, Libra can interfere with balance and movement.
A weapon becomes difficult to raise. A combatant’s stance becomes unstable. A vehicle lists as its load shifts.
Affected opponents may resist or compensate through appropriate Strength, Agility, Endurance, or control FEATs. This does not automatically immobilize a target.
CONTROLLED RELEASE
Libra can dismiss or adjust an established redistribution. A lightened subject resumes bearing its normal load, while a burdened recipient is relieved.
He cannot store force indefinitely or release the same transferred force repeatedly. Momentum already delivered and physical damage already caused remain consequential; ending a spell does not reverse events.
LIMITATIONS
-
Libra must initially see or otherwise directly perceive each subject well enough to place its hex. He has no automatic targeting through walls.
-
Both subjects must remain within range.
-
Maintaining connections requires concentration. Distraction can impair control; unconsciousness ends the workings.
-
Placing a hex on an unwilling subject requires a successful magical targeting FEAT.
-
He cannot place hexes inside living bodies or selectively manipulate internal organs.
-
Mechanical effects of an attack can be redistributed; heat, radiation, psychic damage, and other nonmechanical effects are not directly neutralized.
-
Dispel effects and applicable magical protections can interfere with the hexes.
-
Exceeding his capacity or losing a receiving subject can cause a working to fail. He must account for where the burden will go.
-
His specialized Arcane training does not automatically grant unrelated magical abilities.

EQUIPMENT
ARCANE FIELD ATTIRE
Libra wears a structured, knee-length pearl-ivory field coat with restrained rose-gold piping over a deep-charcoal high-neck tunic and matching trousers. Refined charcoal boots complete the outfit.
A rose-gold balance-scales emblem identifies his Zodiac role at the center of his belt. His clothing favors clean lines, controlled movement, and an authoritative appearance.
His attire carries no automatic armor rank.
PAIRED CASTING FOCI
Two rose-gold finger rings assist the precise placement and adjustment of his hexes. They are tools of practice rather than the source of his magic.
Losing them does not remove his abilities, although unfamiliar casting conditions can complicate demanding work.
ARCANE WORKBOOK
An annotated workbook contains diagrams, observations, and calculations concerning his specialized workings. It supports preparation and research, but he does not need to consult it during routine casting.
SECURE COMMUNICATOR
Standard Zodiac communications equipment supports operational coordination.
CIVILIAN EFFECTS
Libra maintains tailored civilian clothing, a phone, and professional materials suited to negotiations and discreet introductions.

TALENTS
ARCANE THEORY
Libra understands the construction, maintenance, and analysis of Arcane workings, particularly those involving linked subjects and physical forces.
Modifier: +1 CS Reason for applicable Arcane analysis. This does not grant mastery of every magical discipline.
FORCE AND LOAD ANALYSIS
He can assess support, movement, leverage, and likely points of mechanical failure. This knowledge helps him choose recipients capable of bearing a transfer.
Modifier: +1 CS Reason for relevant load and force assessments.
NEGOTIATION AND MEDIATION
Libra identifies competing interests, frames concessions, and constructs arrangements that participants can accept. He is especially effective when each party needs something the other controls.
Modifier: +1 CS to an appropriate social FEAT when circumstances support negotiation. It does not compel agreement.
SOCIAL OBSERVATION
He notices status, discomfort, divided loyalties, and changes in a conversation’s balance. His conclusions remain interpretations and can be wrong.
Modifier: +1 CS Intuition for focused social assessment.
SCOUTING AND EXTERNAL OBSERVATION
His years as a Conglomerate scout developed patient observation, discreet information gathering, and the ability to adapt his presentation to unfamiliar surroundings.
OPERATIONAL PLANNING
Libra evaluates dependencies, timing, resources, and contingencies. He is particularly concerned with what must remain true for a plan to work.
Modifier: +1 CS Reason for prepared operational analysis.
DEFENSIVE COMBAT
Practical training supports evasion, disengagement, and maintaining enough space to cast. He prefers to control a confrontation rather than trade blows.
