CHARACTER SUMMARY
Created in 2015 by Professor Gudran Kranan's Catalysts, Leo began life as LC-17, a genetically engineered leonine humanoid designed for combat and obedience. His extraordinary strength, endurance, formidable claws, and predatory instincts made him a valuable experimental subject, but his creators underestimated his developing pride and fierce loyalty toward others.

After refusing an order to punish another experimental being, LC-17 rebelled against his handlers and escaped the Catalysts in 2023. Pursued by recovery teams and still endangered by implanted control devices, he spent months fighting to remain free.

His life changed when Aries and the Order of the Zodiac discovered him in 2024. The Order provided sanctuary, neutralized his control systems, and offered him something he had never experienced: a home where his allegiance could be freely given.

Adopting the name Leo, he became a proud, courageous, charismatic, and fiercely protective member of the Order. He regards his companions as his chosen pride and will defend them against virtually any threat.

Yet beneath his regal presence lies a terrifying biological Berserker response that can transform him into an uncontrollable combatant when severely injured.

Now assigned to Los Angeles during the Twelve-City Correction, Leo remains an imposing defender of the organization that gave him freedom—while Professor Kranan and the Catalysts continue to regard him as escaped property.

He was engineered to obey. He chose whom to follow.

HISTORY
Project LC-17 — The Creation of Leo
Leo's existence began in 2015 within the secret laboratories of the Catalysts, a bioengineering organization led by Professor Gudran Kranan.

Under an experimental program designated the Leonine Combat Series, Catalyst scientists sought to produce a powerful leonine humanoid capable of combining predatory animal characteristics with humanoid intelligence, advanced physical endurance, and disciplined combat behavior.

The seventeenth experimental subject of the series was designated LC-17.

Through sophisticated genetic engineering and accelerated biological maturation, LC-17 developed the body of a powerful adult leonine humanoid despite his comparatively young chronological age.

His engineered physiology included exceptional muscular strength, agility, hardened protective tissues, formidable natural claws and teeth, and extraordinary endurance.

He also possessed strong hunting instincts, environmental awareness, and the capacity to develop complex social attachments.
The Catalysts initially regarded these qualities as useful characteristics for a future combat operative.
However, they had not anticipated the degree to which LC-17 would develop an independent personality.

Conditioning and the Defense Corps
Between 2016 and 2021, LC-17 underwent extensive conditioning, physical training, behavioral instruction, and combat development.
He was taught to understand human speech, follow orders, recognize tactical objectives, and operate within the Catalysts' military structure. His training emphasized hunting, stealth, close-quarters combat, pursuit, and overcoming dangerous opponents through physical superiority. Under the authority of Alpha-1 and the Catalyst Defense Corps, he was expected to function as an obedient experimental combatant.

Like other controlled Catalyst personnel, LC-17 was subjected to biological restraint technology intended to ensure compliance and prevent escape. These systems included tracking and control mechanisms connected to dangerous implanted failsafes.
Despite the severity of his conditioning, LC-17 developed a distinct personality. He enjoyed recognition for successful assignments, displayed considerable pride in his accomplishments, and became fiercely attached to individuals he considered members of his social group. While the Catalysts viewed these attachments as undesirable behavioral complications, they were central to the emerging individual's identity.

The Defiance — 2022
In 2022, LC-17 was ordered to participate in the punishment of another experimental hybrid that had failed a combat evaluation.
The other subject was smaller and physically less capable than LC-17. Having developed an instinctive protective attachment to the subject, LC-17 refused the order. His handlers attempted to enforce obedience through punishment and the organization's control systems.

Although forced into physical submission, he did not accept the command as justified. The incident alarmed his supervisors.
LC-17 had demonstrated that his developing pride, loyalty, and protective instincts could conflict directly with Catalyst authority.
Additional behavioral conditioning was ordered. The Catalysts believed the problem could be corrected. They were mistaken.

Escape — 2023
In 2023, LC-17 was transferred between Catalyst facilities for further conditioning and evaluation. During the transfer, he recognized an opportunity to rebel. When another captive was threatened, LC-17 intervened and attacked the personnel responsible. The confrontation rapidly escalated into a containment emergency.

LC-17 suffered severe injuries while fighting his way through the facility's security personnel. As his Health fell to its biological danger threshold, an extraordinary physiological response was triggered. His strength and endurance were already formidable, but the resulting Berserker state transformed him into an almost uncontrollable combatant.

The response temporarily increased his effective Health and enabled him to deliver attacks at an extraordinary rate, while eliminating his normal capacity for judgment and restraint. The confrontation caused extensive damage and disruption. Several experimental captives escaped amid the confusion. LC-17 eventually emerged from the conflict alive but severely exhausted. His actions had achieved what years of Catalyst conditioning were intended to make impossible. He had defied his creators and escaped.

Freedom Without Safety
Escaping the facility did not immediately free LC-17 from the Catalysts' control technology. His implanted tracking and failsafe systems remained dangerous. During the escape, he obtained a specialized portable maintenance controller capable of supplying an authorized signal to his restraints. The controller had been designed to support secure transfers and maintenance of experimental subjects away from central command systems.

Its limited operating capacity allowed LC-17 to survive outside direct Catalyst supervision, but it did not permanently disable the implanted mechanisms. He remained dependent upon technology originally designed to imprison him. Throughout 2023 and into 2024, LC-17 lived as a fugitive, avoiding detection while attempting to remain beyond the reach of Catalyst recovery teams. He survived through his hunting abilities, stealth, physical endurance, and increasingly sophisticated understanding of his surroundings.

His attempts to evade capture brought him into repeated conflict with personnel seeking to recover him. Although he successfully resisted recapture, his circumstances remained precarious. LC-17 had escaped captivity, but he had not yet achieved genuine independence.

Discovered by the Order of the Zodiac — 2024
Leo's prolonged flight eventually attracted the attention of the Order of the Zodiac. Aries, Cassandra Elise Whitmore, became interested in reports of an unusually powerful leonine humanoid being pursued by an organized group of technologically equipped operatives. Upon learning that the fugitive was an engineered being attempting to escape the Catalysts, Aries recognized both his extraordinary capabilities and the significance of his predicament. The Order arranged a carefully managed encounter. Initially, LC-17 reacted with suspicion and hostility. He had no reason to trust another powerful organization offering assistance. However, Aries made clear that the Order was prepared to provide protection without returning him to his creators. For the first time, he was offered the possibility of sanctuary without immediately being treated as property.

The Removal of Catalyst Control
Leo's rescue created a difficult technical challenge. The Catalysts' control systems incorporated dangerous implanted failsafes that could not simply be disconnected or removed without risking his life. Through specialized medical and technical assistance, the Order studied the portable maintenance controller and established a means of preserving its necessary authorized signal during a controlled procedure.
With the signal maintained, specialists neutralized the implanted failsafe, then removed the tracking and restraint systems.
The process was difficult and hazardous.

Its success depended upon exceptional technical preparation, specialized resources, and careful medical support. The operation did not establish a simple or universally applicable method for freeing other Catalyst-controlled subjects. However, for LC-17, its outcome was life-changing. The Catalysts could no longer control, track, or threaten him through the implanted systems.

He was finally free.

Becoming Leo — 2025
Following his rescue, LC-17 began a period of recovery, education, training, and adjustment within the Order. He received shelter, food, medical care, personal space, and opportunities to socialize with other members. At first, he interpreted many ordinary gestures as attempts to establish control. His previous experiences had taught him that assistance was rarely offered without demands. Gradually, he came to understand that his new companions valued his presence and abilities.

Unlike the Catalysts, they permitted him to make personal choices.

He developed a particularly strong attachment to Aries, whom he regarded as a leader worthy of his voluntary allegiance. He also discovered that he enjoyed companionship, humor, praise, and the simple satisfaction of belonging to a group. During this period, he adopted the personal name Leo.

The name represented his leonine nature and his growing determination to define his own existence. By 2025, Leo had become a committed and increasingly trusted member of the Order of the Zodiac. The organization was no longer merely his protector. It was his adopted pride.

Loyalty and Life Within the Order
Leo possesses a strong need for belonging, respect, and recognition. He enjoys praise, displays considerable confidence, and responds warmly to companions who treat him with dignity. He can also be stubborn, competitive, possessive, and easily offended by insults directed toward his appearance or origins. He particularly dislikes being called an animal, pet, specimen, or experimental property. Although capable of independent judgment, Leo willingly follows Aries and the Order's established leadership. His obedience is not the result of implanted conditioning.

It is an expression of loyalty to people he considers his chosen family. Leo may complain about an assignment, disagree with an instruction, or display frustration when his pride is wounded. Nevertheless, he remains fiercely committed to defending the organization that gave him freedom and belonging. He considers threats against the Order to be personal threats against his pride.

The Berserker Condition
Leo's most dangerous biological characteristic is an involuntary Berserker response produced by his unusual genetic engineering.
When his Health falls to half its normal value, his body enters an extreme survival state. During this condition, his Psyche falls to zero, his effective Health increases by 100 points, and he becomes capable of delivering two attacks per combat round. The transformation also eliminates his ability to voluntarily stop fighting. Under his original biological specifications, the state continues until his Health is reduced to zero.

This response is distinct from the control-pack-induced fury associated with ordinary Catalyst Defense Corps personnel. Leo cannot reliably command or suppress this condition through ordinary willpower. He is aware that a severe combat injury could place his companions in danger if they remain within reach during an episode. This knowledge is a source of private anxiety. Although Leo takes pride in his physical capabilities, he fears the possibility of harming members of the first family he has ever chosen.

Ongoing Hostility with the Catalysts
Professor Kranan continues to regard Leo as escaped experimental property and valuable genetic research. His successful rebellion is also an affront to Catalyst authority. Alpha-1 considers the former LC-17 a deserter whose continued freedom undermines the control and discipline of the Defense Corps. The Catalysts have not abandoned their desire to recover or punish him.

However, Leo's association with the Order of the Zodiac has significantly complicated their plans. Any direct attempt to capture Leo risks confrontation with the entire Order.

Aries has made clear that Leo is a member of her organization and that aggression against him will not be treated as an isolated incident.
Consequently, the Catalysts have avoided initiating an open conflict, although their interest in Leo remains active. The relationship between the two organizations is characterized by suspicion, hostility, and mutual restraint. Leo regards the possibility of recapture with fierce defiance. He has no intention of returning to captivity.

The Twelve-City Correction — 2026
During the Twelve-City Correction, Leo is assigned to operations associated with Los Angeles, California. His extraordinary physical capabilities make him valuable in direct engagements, tracking, pursuit, and the protection of strategically important personnel or locations.

Unlike members who rely upon specialized weapons or sophisticated technology, Leo's primary advantages are biological. He combines exceptional endurance, powerful claws and teeth, remarkable agility, natural defensive characteristics, and highly developed hunting skills. His personality also makes him a highly visible and imposing representative of the Order. Leo enjoys recognition and has little desire to conceal his pride or capabilities when operating openly. Nevertheless, his unpredictable Berserker response remains a serious operational concern.

Current Activities — 2026
By 2026, Leo is an established member of the Order of the Zodiac. He remains proud, courageous, charismatic, fiercely protective, and deeply loyal to his companions. He enjoys recognition, physical challenges, and the company of individuals he trusts. Although his appearance and extraordinary physical abilities can intimidate strangers, his behavior among familiar companions is often warm, enthusiastic, and unexpectedly playful. He is particularly sensitive to any suggestion that he remains the property of the Catalysts.

For Leo, the Order represents something far more important than an employer or military organization. It represents the freedom to belong. His greatest fear is not defeat in combat. It is losing the only home he has ever freely chosen. Leo was engineered to obey. He chose whom to follow.

POWERS
Leo possesses extraordinary biological abilities resulting from advanced genetic engineering conducted by the Catalysts.

His leonine humanoid physiology combines tremendous endurance, powerful musculature, exceptional agility, hardened natural tissues, formidable claws and teeth, and developed predatory instincts.

These abilities are innate characteristics of his engineered body. They are not dependent upon powered armor, technological enhancements worn externally, or mystical artifacts.

Enhanced Strength
Strength: Remarkable (30)
Leo possesses superhuman physical strength, enabling him to overpower ordinary opponents, lift and move substantial weights, and deliver powerful physical attacks.
His musculature was specifically engineered for demanding combat and survival conditions.
His great strength complements his natural claws and teeth, making him particularly dangerous in close combat.

Enhanced Agility
Agility: Remarkable (30)
Leo possesses exceptional physical coordination, balance, speed of movement, and predatory reflexes.
He can navigate difficult terrain, react rapidly to threats, and move with remarkable physical control despite his powerful build.
His agility is particularly valuable when hunting, stalking opponents, evading attacks, or crossing complicated environments.
His physical abilities do not automatically grant him a separate superhuman leaping rank beyond what his documented attributes and talents support.

Extraordinary Endurance
Endurance: Amazing (50)
Leo's engineered physiology grants exceptional stamina, physical resilience, and resistance to exhaustion.
He can endure prolonged physical exertion and withstand punishment that would incapacitate many ordinary beings.
His extraordinary endurance is one of his most important biological advantages and contributes significantly to his original Health score of 130.

Natural Armoring
Leo possesses hardened biological tissues and protective physical characteristics that provide:
-
Energy Protection: Typical (6)
-
Temperature Protection: Typical (6)
-
Physical Protection: Good (10)
-
Toxin Protection: Good (10)
-
Radiation Protection: Excellent (20)
These defenses are natural characteristics of his engineered body rather than protective clothing or external armor.
They do not make him invulnerable.

Claws and Teeth
Material Strength: Amazing (50)
Rending Damage: Incredible (40)
Leo possesses extremely durable natural claws and teeth capable of inflicting devastating close-range injuries.
His claws provide his primary natural attack capability, while his teeth can also be used during physical confrontations.
Their exceptional material strength is a product of the Catalysts' genetic modifications.
Leo can use these natural weapons without relying upon manufactured blades or other equipment.

Berserker Survival Response
Leo possesses an extraordinary and dangerous involuntary survival mechanism.
Activation Condition: Health falls to one-half of his normal total.
Psyche During Berserker State: 0
Health Increase: +100 points
Attack Rate: Two attacks per combat round
Termination: The condition continues until Leo reaches 0 Health.

When the response activates, Leo enters an uncontrollable combat state.
His normal judgment, restraint, and ability to respond to reason are effectively lost while the condition remains active.
The physiological response increases his capacity to sustain punishment while permitting a much greater rate of attack.
However, the condition is not a voluntary ability that he can activate or deactivate through ordinary concentration.
Leo cannot simply decide to stop fighting once the state has begun.

The Berserker response does not establish a permanent increase to his ordinary FASERIP attributes.
It is also separate from the electronically induced fury employed through standard Catalyst Defense Corps control technology.
The actual consequences of reaching zero Health are resolved through the applicable RPG combat and incapacitation rules; no additional resurrection or automatic recovery ability is implied.

Predatory Senses and Instincts
Leo possesses hunting instincts and environmental awareness appropriate to his engineered leonine physiology.
He is observant, sensitive to changes in his surroundings, and skilled at following signs of movement or passage.
His documented Hunting and Environmental Awareness talents provide the original rank modifiers listed under TALENTS.
No additional supernatural senses, night-vision rank, or extraordinary tracking range have been established in his original character specifications.

Biological Limitations
Despite his impressive powers, Leo is neither indestructible nor immune to injury.
His natural armor offers only the documented protection ranks, and sufficiently powerful attacks can seriously injure him.
His Berserker state is especially dangerous because it prevents voluntary disengagement and may endanger allies as well as enemies.
Leo's Reason and Psyche are both Typical (6), reflecting his documented baseline attributes rather than an inability to form meaningful emotional relationships or understand complex situations.

His personal weaknesses include pride, sensitivity to humiliation, strong attachment to companions, and intense fear of returning to captivity.

He possesses no documented magical powers, energy blasts, flight, or additional external technological abilities.

EQUIPMENT
Unlike several other members of the Order of the Zodiac, Leo does not depend upon specialized personal weapons, powered armor, or combat vehicles.

His natural physical capabilities were developed through Catalyst genetic engineering and form the foundation of his effectiveness.

Natural Biological Weapons
Leo's claws and teeth are the primary weapons available to him.
-
Material Strength: Amazing (50)
-
Rending Damage: Incredible (40)
These are biological structures and are classified under POWERS rather than manufactured equipment.

Zodiac Combat Attire
Following his acceptance into the Order of the Zodiac, Leo received a custom-fitted combat outfit designed to accommodate his massive leonine humanoid physique.
His distinctive attire features oxblood-red, burnished-gold, and black protective components, including a fitted chest harness, reinforced shoulder guards, armored bracers, leg protection, and a ceremonial front tabard displaying his leonine insignia.
The design preserves freedom of movement for his powerful limbs, massive clawed paws, mane, and tail.
Leo also carries two oversized combat blades in a specially fitted back-mounted harness. These weapons supplement his formidable natural claws and teeth.
The blades' precise material strength and damage rankings have not been established in his original RPG specifications.
Although his attire incorporates protective armor components, no additional FASERIP protection values have been assigned beyond his documented natural defenses.

Former Catalyst Control Systems
During his captivity, Leo was subjected to Catalyst tracking, restraint, and biological failsafe technology.
These systems were intended to monitor his movements, enforce obedience, and prevent escape.
Following his rescue by the Order of the Zodiac, the implanted failsafe was neutralized and the associated tracking and control mechanisms removed.
These devices are no longer operational equipment carried by Leo.
The original implantation procedures, specialized control signals, and recovery technology remain matters of Catalyst technical knowledge.

Former Portable Maintenance Controller
During his escape, Leo obtained a specialized Catalyst-authorized maintenance controller that temporarily sustained the signal required by his implanted restraint system.
This device was essential to his survival as a fugitive before his rescue.
It was used during the Order's successful effort to neutralize his control systems.
The device is not established as part of Leo's current personal equipment.

Order of the Zodiac Support
As a member of the Order, Leo has access to appropriate organizational facilities, mission transportation, medical assistance, training resources, and logistical support.
Such resources belong to the organization and should not automatically be interpreted as specialized personal powers or equipment.

Equipment Limitations
Leo has no established permanent ranged weapon, battle armor, personal aircraft, or technologically enhanced combat system.
His reliance upon natural weapons means that he is primarily a close-combat specialist.
He is most effective when his physical strength, agility, hunting abilities, and endurance can be brought directly to bear.
No additional equipment specifications or combat ranks have been added to his original RPG character record.

TALENTS
Leo possesses specialized talents developed through his engineered physiology, Catalyst conditioning, Defense Corps training, and subsequent experience with the Order of the Zodiac.

His original character record establishes three principal talents.

Stealth
Stealth: +1 Agility
Leo is skilled at moving quietly, exploiting available concealment, and approaching targets without immediately revealing his position.
Despite his powerful physical build, his predatory coordination and training allow him to move with considerable precision.
His stealth capabilities are particularly valuable when tracking opponents, operating in difficult terrain, or preparing to engage a threat at close range.

Hunting
Hunting: +1 Reason / +1 Intuition
Leo possesses developed hunting skills, including recognizing signs of passage, following tracks, interpreting environmental disturbances, and understanding the behavior of potential prey or adversaries.
These skills reflect both his engineered instincts and the training he received while under Catalyst control.
Leo can apply hunting experience to tactical pursuit, locating concealed opponents, and navigating unfamiliar territory.

Environmental Awareness
Environmental Awareness: +1 Intuition
Leo possesses specialized awareness of his immediate surroundings.
He is experienced at detecting potentially dangerous conditions, identifying changes in terrain or nearby activity, and recognizing environmental factors that could influence movement or combat.
His Environmental Awareness talent complements his Hunting and Stealth capabilities.

Close-Combat Experience
Leo received combat conditioning through the Catalyst Defense Corps and additional training after joining the Order.
He possesses considerable experience in physical confrontation, including the practical application of his claws, teeth, strength, agility, and endurance.
His documented Fighting attribute is Excellent (20).
No additional formal hand-to-hand combat talent modifier has been established in his original character record.

Social and Organizational Adaptation
Since joining the Order, Leo has developed an increased understanding of companionship, loyalty, cooperation, and voluntary organizational discipline.
He enjoys praise, responds positively to recognition, and displays a strong desire to contribute meaningfully to group activities.
Although proud and occasionally argumentative, Leo respects the authority of individuals who have earned his trust.
His loyalty to Aries is voluntary and rooted in gratitude, belonging, and personal respect.

Protective Instinct
Leo is fiercely protective of those he considers members of his adopted pride.
He is willing to confront dangerous opponents and accept considerable personal risk to defend his companions.
This behavior reflects his personality, social development, and engineered predatory instincts.
It is not an additional superhuman power or a separate quantified RPG talent.

Personal Weaknesses
Leo's pride can make him sensitive to criticism, humiliation, or perceived disrespect.
He is particularly offended by suggestions that he remains an animal, experimental specimen, or possession of the Catalysts.
His strong attachment to the Order can also make him emotionally vulnerable when companions are threatened.
His most significant combat-related limitation is his involuntary Berserker condition, which can eliminate his ability to distinguish appropriate targets or voluntarily stop fighting.
