-
Malcolm Soren — Father, Alive
-
A former dockworker, pub doorman, and occasional bare-knuckle fighter from Liverpool. Malcolm taught Jack that most violence begins before the first punch—through posture, tone, territory, and the failure to recognize when someone has already lost.
-
He remains alive but estranged from his son. Malcolm believes Jack became everything he once warned him not to become.
-

-
Elaine Soren — Mother, Deceased
-
A hospital orderly who died following years of chronic illness. Her medical debts and the pressure placed upon the family by private lenders strongly shaped Jack’s hatred of unpaid obligations, exploitative creditors, and people who borrow without accepting consequences.
-
Jack rarely discusses her.
-

-
Daniel Soren — Younger Brother, Alive
-
A former university student and amateur rugby player who became involved in illegal sports betting. Daniel accumulated substantial debt and disappeared after Jack secretly paid off several collectors on his behalf.
-
Daniel’s current location is unknown. Jack believes he fled Britain and resents him for leaving without explanation.
-
He also continues paying to ensure no one else finds him first.
-

-
Imogen Vale — Former Partner, Alive
-
A nightclub manager who worked with Jack during his early years as a bouncer. Imogen was one of the few people capable of calming him after violent incidents.
-
Their relationship ended after she discovered that Jack had begun deliberately escalating certain confrontations in order to test new weapons.
-
She now operates a legitimate venue in Manchester and refuses all contact with him.

CHARACTER SUMMARY
Jack of Clubs is a controlled, intimidating enforcer who believes every debt should be clearly stated and every consequence understood. He is capable of patience, negotiation, and even limited mercy when a debtor deals honestly with him. Once his warning has been ignored, however, he becomes brutally direct and accepts whatever violence is required to complete the collection.

Jack’s most distinctive quirk is his fascination with clubs and impact weapons. He studies them as an engineer, historian, craftsman, and combatant. Every weapon is selected or designed for a purpose, and he takes genuine pride in testing new materials, mechanisms, and effects. Destroying a club after a killing does not bother him; he sees each weapon as temporary, built to complete one particular story.

Despite his reputation, Jack is not indiscriminately vicious. He dislikes pointless suffering, uncontrolled destruction, and people who use violence without understanding what they are trying to achieve. He respects honesty, physical courage, professional competence, and anyone willing to accept the consequences of their choices. His concealed protection of his missing brother suggests that family loyalty remains stronger than he admits.

Within the Blackjacks, Jack is loyal to Bruno because Bruno gives structure and legitimacy to the work Jack already understands. Bruno establishes what is owed; Jack makes certain it is paid. He does not aspire to control the entire organization. He wants authority over the moment when negotiation ends and enforcement begins.

History
Raised Behind the Door
Jack Soren was born in Liverpool, England, into a working-class family accustomed to physical labor, long hours, and unstable money.

His father, Malcolm, worked the docks and supplemented his income as a pub doorman. His mother, Elaine, worked in hospital support services until declining health forced her to stop.

Jack grew up around doorways.

Pub doors. Club doors. Hospital doors. Betting-shop doors. The doors of creditors who came to the Soren home demanding payment.

He learned early that the person standing at the entrance controlled who came in, who left, and how much trouble followed them.
Malcolm taught him practical fighting rather than formal sport. Jack learned how to block a doorway, move a drunk without losing balance, disarm someone in a crowd, and end a confrontation before it became a riot.

He was large, strong, and calm for his age.
Until he was challenged.

The Family Debt
Elaine Soren’s illness placed increasing financial pressure on the family. Malcolm’s work was inconsistent, and the Sorens borrowed from private lenders connected to local gambling operations.

The terms worsened rapidly.

By the time Jack was old enough to work, he was already helping pay interest on debts he had never agreed to.

He took jobs unloading freight, repairing equipment, clearing clubs after closing, and working doors at pubs that should never have hired someone his age.

When collectors came to the family home, Jack watched how they operated.

They did not need to attack anyone.

They made people imagine what would happen if they failed to pay.

Jack learned the lesson.

Fear worked best before violence. Violence was merely proof that the fear had been justified.

The First Club
Jack’s first weapon was a broken table leg used during a pub fight.

Three men attempted to force their way into a private room after one of them had been banned. Jack struck the first across the wrist, the second in the knee, and the third in the jaw.

The fight lasted less than thirty seconds.

He kept the table leg.

Later, he sanded it down, reinforced the grip, wrapped the handle, and added a weighted core. He discovered that he enjoyed not only using the weapon, but improving it.

The club was simple, honest, and adaptable.

A firearm could miss.
A knife could become trapped.

A club delivered exactly what the wielder put into it.

Professional Bouncer
By his early 20s, Jack had become one of the most sought-after private security men in northern England.

He worked:
-
Nightclubs
-
Illegal gambling rooms
-
Private parties
-
Boxing events
-
Music venues
-
Underground casinos
-
High-risk VIP functions

He developed a reputation for remaining calm under pressure.

Jack would warn a person once.
Sometimes twice.

After that, the discussion was over.

He became particularly effective at dealing with wealthy or connected patrons who believed rules did not apply to them. Jack treated status as irrelevant once someone endangered the venue, employees, or customers.

He also began collecting unusual clubs and impact weapons.

Each served a purpose.

Some were designed for restraint. Others for intimidation. Some were meant to break armor, disable electronics, disperse crowds, or end a fight immediately.

Jack kept detailed notes about weight, grip, balance, material, and impact behavior.

His collection became an obsession.

Daniel’s Mistake
Jack’s younger brother Daniel became involved in illegal sports betting while attending university.

At first, the debt seemed manageable.

Then Daniel borrowed to cover previous losses.

Jack paid one collector, then another.

Each payment only encouraged Daniel to gamble again.

Eventually, a gang connected to a regional betting operation abducted Daniel and demanded the family’s remaining property.
Jack agreed to meet them.

He arrived carrying a newly designed steel-core club concealed inside a sports bag.

By the end of the night, six men were hospitalized, one died from head trauma, and Daniel was free.

Jack burned the club in an industrial furnace.

It was the first murder weapon he intentionally destroyed.

Daniel disappeared soon afterward.

Jack interpreted the disappearance as betrayal, cowardice, and perhaps the only intelligent choice his brother had ever made.

The Collection Trade
Following the incident, Jack was approached by criminal lenders who had heard what he had done.

They did not want revenge.
They wanted to hire him.

Jack entered professional debt collection.

At first, he handled small gambling debts, club protection payments, unpaid loans, and stolen property. His method was direct:
-
Confirm what was owed.
-
Determine whether the debtor could pay.
-
Offer one realistic opportunity to settle.
-
Apply consequences.

Jack did not enjoy pointless suffering. He preferred clear outcomes.

A debtor who paid was finished with him.
A debtor who negotiated honestly might receive more time.
A debtor who lied, threatened him, or attacked first became an example.

This distinction made Jack unusually effective. People believed him because he did not bluff often.

The Clubmaker
Jack’s work introduced him to engineers, armorers, machinists, smugglers, and weapons specialists.

He began commissioning custom clubs built for specific jobs.

His arsenal included:
-
Reinforced batons
-
Collapsible impact weapons
-
Spiked clubs
-
Electrical shock maces
-
Chemical-delivery weapons
-
Force-field projectors
-
Telescoping staffs
-
Acid-dispersal systems
-
Nonmetallic composite cudgels
-
Disposable ice weapons

Jack participated in the design process personally.

He tested grip geometry, center of mass, impact transfer, recoil, reach, and structural failure.

No two weapons were identical.

This practice also became part of his criminal protection. When authorities connected him to a murder, the suspected weapon had often already been dismantled, melted, dissolved, discarded, or replaced.

Investigators repeatedly found injuries consistent with different weapons.

They struggled to establish a single signature.
They were looking for the wrong pattern.
The signature was not the weapon.
It was the decision to create a new one.

The Club Massacre
Jack’s reputation became international after a private London gambling establishment refused to honor debts owed to a larger criminal syndicate.

The venue’s owners believed their political protection would shield them.

Jack entered the club alone.

He offered the owners one hour to settle.
They responded by sending armed security.

Jack used a telescoping shock club to disable the first group, a gas-emitting baton to clear the gaming floor, and a weighted spiked mace against the remaining gunmen.

By the end of the confrontation, the casino had surrendered its financial records, three owners had signed asset-transfer documents, and several security personnel were dead or permanently injured.

The gaming tables, vault, cash reserves, and surveillance systems remained intact.

Blackjack Bruno took notice.

Recruitment into the Blackjacks
Bruno did not recruit Jack because of the body count.

He recruited him because Jack understood the difference between destruction and enforcement.

Bruno arranged for Jack to collect a debt from one of his own casino partners as a test. The debtor was influential, armed, and protected by corrupt officials.

Jack studied the man’s business, associates, routes, and vulnerabilities.
He then walked into the casino during operating hours and sat beside him.

Jack explained exactly how much was owed, when the deadline had passed, and what would happen next.

The man paid without a fight.

Bruno was impressed.

The best enforcer, he understood, was not the one who killed the most people.
It was the one whose reputation made killing unnecessary.

Jack joined the Blackjacks and adopted the title Jack of Clubs.

The Clubs Division
Under Bruno, Jack reorganized Blackjacks enforcement into the Clubs Division.

The division is responsible for:
-
Gambling-debt collection
-
Protection enforcement
-
Casino security
-
Internal disciplinary action
-
Violent extraction
-
Crowd control
-
Physical intimidation
-
Criminal escort services
-
Removal of disruptive patrons
-
Suppression of rival collectors
-
Recovery of personnel
-
Enforcement during high-level criminal negotiations

The Clubs Division differs from the Wild Jokers.

The Wild Jokers are used when terror itself is the service.

Jack’s division is used when the Blackjacks want a controlled result.

Jack sees himself as a professional, not a sadist.

He considers uncontrolled violence wasteful.

The Rule of One Warning
Jack established a standing policy within his division:
Every debtor receives one clear warning.

The warning must include:
-
What is owed
-
Who is owed
-
The final deadline
-
The consequence of refusal

After that, collection begins.

Jack believes this makes everything that follows the debtor’s own decision.

He has little patience for people who claim they did not understand the terms.

The Missing Weapons
Jack has been connected to dozens of deaths across several countries.

No single murder weapon has been conclusively tied to him.

After every major killing, the club used in the attack disappears.

Some are dismantled and melted.

Some are cut into pieces and discarded through separate waste systems.

Wooden weapons are burned.

Chemical weapons are dissolved.

Ice weapons leave almost nothing behind.

Jack then builds or commissions a replacement.

To him, destroying a weapon is not a loss.

It is the end of that weapon’s story.

The Enthusiast
Jack’s interest in clubs borders on obsession.

He maintains sketches, material samples, impact-test results, and notes on historical blunt weapons from different cultures.

He can discuss:
-
Maces
-
Batons
-
War clubs
-
Morning stars
-
Police truncheons
-
Ceremonial staffs
-
Sporting bats
-
Improvised impact tools
-
Crowd-control weapons
-
Anti-armor clubs

He becomes noticeably more animated when discussing design improvements.

This is one of the few subjects capable of making him openly enthusiastic.

He sometimes gives favored weapons names, though he rarely uses those names in front of others.

Present-Day Operations
Today, Jack of Clubs is one of Blackjack Bruno’s most visible and feared field lieutenants.

He is deployed when the Blackjacks require:
-
A major debt collected
-
A casino floor secured
-
A violent patron removed
-
An internal thief punished
-
A gang war contained
-
A witness extracted
-
A protected meeting enforced
-
A rival collection crew defeated
-
A dangerous target captured alive
-
A public example made without unnecessary damage

Jack usually begins with conversation.
He explains the amount owed.
He provides a final opportunity.
He listens to excuses.

Then he decides which club to use.
