Street Gangs of Providence
In Providence, Rhode Island in the MDU, there are a handful of townships which street gangs operate from. A street gang is a gang made up of children, teenagers and/or young adults not to exceed 50 gang members; more than 50 members constitutes its own entry under "Gangs".

The following is a list of known street gangs in Providence, RI in the MDU (and are not reflective, representative, nor associative of any existing or defunct gangs in the real world in any respective manner)
Crooked Saints
LEADER: Lucia “Halo” Moretti

MEMBERS: 31

TERRITORY: Federal Hill, centered on Atwells Avenue, DePasquale Square, adjoining nightlife and restaurant corridors, parking areas, and nearby mixed-use streets.

ALLIES: Woonasquatucket Wreckers; Narragansett Knives (primarily transactional relationships)

ENEMIES: RISD Rats; intermittent friction with Southside Sovereigns

WEAPONS OF CHOICE: Compact semiautomatic pistols, folding knives, compact fixed-blade knives, collapsible batons, pepper spray, and improvised close-quarters weapons.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Crooked Saints are a polished, mixed-gender Providence street gang embedded in Federal Hill's restaurant and nightlife economy. Led by Lucia “Halo” Moretti, the 31-member crew specializes in high-end theft, fencing stolen property, hospitality fraud, vehicle break-ins, nightlife scams, and quiet protection arrangements. Rather than openly dominate street corners, the Saints build influence through bartenders, valets, restaurant workers, drivers, shop employees, and other people with access to money, property, and information.
Recognized by subtle combinations of wine burgundy, black, antique gold, and cream—and by their distinctive broken-halo symbol—the Crooked Saints deliberately maintain a more sophisticated appearance than traditional territorial gangs. Their members blend easily into Federal Hill's restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, and evening crowds, allowing criminal activity to hide inside legitimate nightlife.
More interested in profit than spectacle, Halo discourages indiscriminate violence and overt displays that could damage the neighborhood economy upon which the gang depends. The result is a crew whose territory appears relatively compact but whose network of buyers, workers, informants, fences, and favors extends considerably farther than Federal Hill itself.
Narragansett Knives

TERRITORY: Port of Providence, Allens Avenue, Washington Park waterfront approaches, warehouse corridors, freight staging areas, trucking routes, and nearby industrial streets.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Narragansett Knives are a 26-member cargo-theft and waterfront crime gang operating around the Port of Providence, Allens Avenue, Washington Park, and adjacent industrial freight corridors. Led by Mateo “Cutline” Ferreira, the Knives specialize in cargo pilferage, freight diversion, trailer theft, warehouse burglary, stolen commercial goods, and intelligence about valuable shipments moving through Providence.
Recognizable by midnight navy, harbor gray, signal orange, and their downward-pointing knife-and-anchor emblem, the Knives maintain a practical dock-and-logistics appearance rather than a traditional street-gang aesthetic. Their members often come from trucking, warehousing, freight handling, marine-service, delivery, or industrial backgrounds.
The gang's strength lies in understanding movement. Rather than attempting spectacular hijackings, the Knives prefer controlled thefts in which information, timing, transportation, and resale are arranged before property disappears. Their operating philosophy is summarized by a simple phrase:
“Everything moves.”
Their most serious conflict is with the Southside Sovereigns, who demand territorial authority over routes the Knives consider part of the waterfront economy.
RISD Rats
Leader: Maya “Stencil” Varga

TERRITORY: Downtown Providence, College Hill, South Main Street, Jewelry District, and surrounding creative, student, nightlife, gallery, resale, and renovated industrial spaces.

ALLIES: No formal allies; selective business with Woonasquatucket Wreckers and Narragansett Knives

ENEMIES: Crooked Saints

WEAPONS OF CHOICE: Compact pistols, folding knives, box cutters, pepper spray, heavy bicycle locks, utility blades, small batons, and improvised tools.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The RISD Rats are Providence's smallest and most unconventional street gang, operating through the city's creative, student, nightlife, resale, gallery, and design-oriented districts. Led by Maya “Stencil” Varga, the 21-member gang specializes in specialty theft, art and design crime, high-end bicycle and e-bike theft, counterfeit goods, forged credentials, resale fraud, burglary, and identifying unusual stolen property that other gangs overlook.
Recognizable through acid green, black, white, heavily individualized streetwear, and their brush-stroke rat-skull emblem, the Rats reject rigid gang uniforms and traditional hierarchy. Their membership includes artists, designers, photographers, skaters, tattooists, musicians, resellers, bike specialists, nightlife workers, and tech-comfortable creatives.
The gang's greatest strength is knowing what something is worth. Where other criminals see junk, the Rats may see collectible furniture, rare electronics, premium bicycle components, designer goods, or obscure equipment with a ready buyer.
Their core belief is:
“If you can see the value, you own the advantage.”
Their strongest rivalry is with the Crooked Saints, whose controlled luxury-fencing network overlaps directly with the Rats' more chaotic specialty-resale economy.
Southside Sovereigns
Leader: Malik “Crown” Baptiste

TERRITORY: South Providence, including residential blocks, commercial corridors, transit areas, neighborhood gathering points, and selected routes approaching the waterfront and industrial districts.

ALLIES: No formal allies; limited transactional dealings with RISD Rats

ENEMIES: Narragansett Knives; recurring friction with Crooked Saints and Woonasquatucket Wreckers

WEAPONS OF CHOICE: Semiautomatic pistols, revolvers, compact shotguns, folding knives, baseball bats, tire irons, and heavy flashlights.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Southside Sovereigns are Providence’s largest and most territorially focused street gang. Led by Malik “Crown” Baptiste, the 42-member crew controls significant portions of South Providence through neighborhood presence, street-level narcotics, illegal gambling, robbery, intimidation, protection, and territorial taxation.
Recognizable by royal purple, black, silver, and their angular crown-over-S symbol, the Sovereigns view themselves as neighborhood authority rather than simply another criminal crew. Members closely monitor who moves through their territory, which businesses cooperate, and which outsiders attempt to profit without permission.
The Sovereigns are less specialized than other Providence gangs but compensate through numbers, local knowledge, and the ability to mobilize quickly. Their defining belief is simple: “Southside belongs to Southside.”
Their most serious rivalry is with the Narragansett Knives, whose waterfront activity frequently crosses territory the Sovereigns consider subject to their control.
Woonasquatucket Wreckers
Leader: Darren “Rivet” Kells

TERRITORY: Olneyville and the Woonasquatucket River industrial corridor, including old mill areas, warehouses, loading zones, construction sites, storage lots, service streets, and truck-access properties.

ALLIES: Crooked Saints; Narragansett Knives

ENEMIES: No permanent enemy; recurring territorial friction with Southside Sovereigns

WEAPONS OF CHOICE: Compact pistols and revolvers, crowbars, hammers, pry bars, folding knives, tire irons, pipe wrenches, heavy flashlights, and other industrial hand tools.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Woonasquatucket Wreckers, usually called simply the Wreckers, are a 28-member industrial theft gang operating from Olneyville and the Woonasquatucket River corridor. Led by former maintenance worker Darren “Rivet” Kells, the gang specializes in construction theft, stolen tools, scrap metal, commercial equipment, work vehicles, trailers, warehouse property, and the storage and movement of stolen goods.
Recognizable by rust orange, charcoal gray, faded workwear blue, and their cracked-gear/wrecking-ball emblem, the Wreckers deliberately dress like ordinary contractors, warehouse workers, mechanics, and laborers. Their members value practical skills over appearance or reputation, and many possess experience in construction, towing, repair, demolition, or industrial work.
The Wreckers are less interested in street prestige than in useful property. Their access to tools, vehicles, storage space, machinery, and repair knowledge makes them valuable to other Providence gangs, even when those gangs dislike them. Rivet’s crew has built a reputation around one simple principle: nothing is worthless if you know what it is.
