CHARACTER SUMMARY
Capricorn builds what the Order of the Zodiac intends to keep. Malian infrastructure contractor Ibrahima Dembélé voluntarily underwent a dangerous Zenith Labs transformation, gaining the ability to consolidate mineral material, shape fortifications, and assemble protective stone armor. Operating from a fortified depot outside Timbuktu, he turns uncertain footholds into enduring positions. Disciplined, ambitious, and deeply loyal to those who empowered him, Capricorn believes proven competence earns the right to rule—and expects the world to accept his foundations.

History
Ibrahima Dembélé built his reputation by completing difficult infrastructure projects under conditions that defeated less disciplined contractors. He understood foundations, drainage, material fatigue, construction logistics, and the consequences of neglected maintenance. He also understood how quickly political promises could consume resources without producing anything that lasted.
His frustration hardened into a governing belief: authority should belong to people capable of delivering dependable results. Increasingly, he regarded public disagreement and political accountability as obstacles to competent leadership. He wanted institutions that endured, but became unwilling to accept that their survival might require sharing power.
As an infrastructure contractor for the Order of the Zodiac, Dembélé proved dependable, discreet, and demanding. He developed facilities, assessed difficult sites, and identified practical weaknesses in ambitious operational plans. He also occasionally observed how much more he could accomplish with superhuman abilities. Direct control over ground and stone would allow him to stabilize dangerous sites, eliminate delays, and construct positions conventional methods could scarcely support.
The Order needed precisely that capability. Suitable powered recruits were scarce, and approaches to several potential candidates—including heroes—ended in refusal. Its leadership offered Dembélé an extraordinary alternative: an expensive experimental transformation conducted by Zenith Labs’ clandestine human-enhancement division.
The procedure could grant him powers. It could also kill him.
Dembélé questioned the researchers, examined the proposed capabilities, and considered the risks. He understood that preparation could not make the experiment safe. He accepted voluntarily, convinced that the opportunity justified the danger.
He survived.
The transformation gave him the ability to bind, compact, and reshape existing mineral material. Mastery required difficult rehabilitation and sustained practice. His engineering knowledge proved indispensable: moving material did not automatically produce a sound foundation, a stable arch, or a defensible structure.
Taking the name Capricorn, he became the Order’s specialist in site development, fortification, and holding contested ground. He remains deeply grateful to the organization that financed his transformation. He considers its investment a recognition of his competence and a responsibility he must honor through results.
That loyalty permits disagreement. Capricorn challenges wasteful expenditure, unrealistic schedules, and unsound construction. He believes protecting the Order’s future requires honest assessments, even when its leaders would prefer reassurance.
From a fortified construction and expedition depot outside Timbuktu, he supports investigations extending toward Djenné and other possible sites. The sought-after anchor’s precise location remains unknown. His powers can expose physical features and stabilize excavations, but cannot establish whether an interpretation of ancient evidence is correct.
Capricorn believes the Order’s eventual empowerment of its twelve members will place lasting authority in capable hands. His own transformation makes that promise persuasive: they have already invested in an extraordinary future for him.
Patient, exacting, and possessed of dry humor, he respects competence even in opponents. His danger lies in the certainty that achievement entitles him to obedience. He will defend a community, maintain its infrastructure, and demand that its inhabitants accept his leadership as the price of stability.

Powers
SCIENTIFICALLY ALTERED PHYSIOLOGY
Capricorn’s enhancement is permanent. He remains a living, human-looking man beneath his equipment and mineral armor.
His Incredible Endurance reflects stamina and resilience; it does not provide ranked damage reduction. His unequipped body has no ranked armor protection.
MINERAL CONSOLIDATION — Incredible (40)
Through physical contact, Capricorn can compact, bind, and reorganize existing stone, sand, gravel, earth, and mineral-based construction materials.
Control extends through a continuous body of suitable material to approximately 30 feet from his contact point. Gaps and unsuitable intervening materials interrupt control.
He cannot create matter, alter living tissue, control water or refined metal, or transform chemical elements. Shaping concrete does not give him control over its internal steel reinforcement.
STRUCTURAL SHAPING — Remarkable (30)
He can form barriers, braces, steps, climbing holds, foundations, and practical defensive structures.
A modest barrier or foothold can form during combat. Substantial fortifications require sustained work, adequate material, and sound engineering. Large installations take hours or days.
Under suitable conditions, he can improve treated material’s cohesion up to Incredible resistance. Foundations, connections, geometry, and untreated components remain potential weaknesses.
Completed structures retain their physical form and reinforcement without constant concentration. Further shaping and active resistance to hostile control require renewed effort.
ACCRETED MINERAL ARMOR — Remarkable (30)
Capricorn assembles external mineral layers around his existing body and suit. He does not biologically transform into stone.
His three operational states are:
• Unarmored: His altered-human body and protective engineering suit; mineral powers remain available.
• Partially armored: Selected mineral protection around chosen areas, preserving greater freedom of movement.
• Fully armored: A substantial articulated mineral shell surrounding his body and reinforcing his worn helmet.
Mineral armor provides Remarkable physical protection where present. Uncovered locations retain only their available equipment protection.
Armor adds external bulk while preserving his human anatomy and joint alignment. Greater coverage and mass reduce mobility. Damage to the shell does not automatically injure him, although penetrating attacks and transmitted impacts can.
Formation and repair require suitable available material and active effort. He has no automatic defensive shield.
ARMORED STRENGTH — Remarkable (30)
His controlled mineral framework supports lifting, bracing, and close combat with Remarkable Strength while fully armored.
His unarmored Strength remains Excellent. Leverage, footing, and the strength of supporting surfaces still matter.
ANCHORED STANCE — Incredible (40)
On suitable mineral ground, Capricorn can extend his armor into the surface and establish a firm physical attachment.
He resists displacement with Incredible ability while rooted. Effective bracing and leverage can reach Incredible Strength, but he must release the anchor before moving.
Breaking or separating the supporting ground can defeat the attachment. Anchoring does not prevent attacks that bypass his physical defenses.
STRUCTURAL SENSITIVITY — Remarkable (30)
Through contact, he can detect strain, fractures, and significant voids within suitable contiguous material, up to approximately 30 feet.
This assists assessment and excavation. It does not identify concealed people, read inscriptions, reveal history, or detect magical anchors.
CONTESTED MINERAL CONTROL
When another being attempts incompatible control over suitable material within his reach, Capricorn can oppose that manipulation through an opposed power FEAT.
Compare the relevant abilities: normally Incredible Mineral Consolidation when resisting disruption of material cohesion, or Remarkable Structural Shaping when competing to reshape it.
Rank, concentration, contact, range, and circumstances determine the outcome. He cannot automatically negate another being’s powers.
His mineral armor can itself be contested by an appropriate opponent. He must actively defend its control.
He cannot remotely seize an airborne boulder, control substances outside his capabilities, or cancel a regional earthquake. He may attempt to stabilize a limited local position.
BREATHING AND WATER LIMITATIONS
-
Capricorn requires air in every armor state. Mineral armor supplies no oxygen.
-
Full armor makes him strongly negatively buoyant; he sinks and can drown. Suitable underwater ground may permit anchoring or movement, but does not solve his breathing needs.
-
He can release armor to shed weight. Reaching safety still depends on depth, remaining air, currents, injury, and entrapment.
GENERAL LIMITATIONS
-
Heavy work demands concentration and causes fatigue. He cannot lift mountains, manipulate tectonic plates, cause regional earthquakes, or instantly collapse every structure he touches.
-
He cannot fly. Airborne engagements and environments lacking accessible mineral material restrict his options.

EQUIPMENT
ENGINEERING COMBAT SUIT
His purpose-built petroleum-green suit incorporates bronze fittings, pale limestone-colored protective plates, reinforced joints, bracers, and climbing/work combat boots.
The suit provides Good (10) protection against physical attacks. Its manufactured plates are distinct from his power-generated mineral armor.
Suit and mineral protection do not add together. Use the stronger protection at the location struck.
The correct astrological Capricorn glyph, ♑, appears prominently on his chest. When mineral armor covers that area, he forms a corresponding external glyph.
SEALED COMBAT HELMET
His petroleum-green and bronze helmet incorporates a dark protective visor, communications, an engineering display, and two compact curved ibex-inspired horns.
The horns are structural costume elements rather than magical weapons.
The sealed helmet carries approximately 15 minutes of emergency breathing air when fully supplied and functioning. It provides an escape window rather than unlimited underwater operation or deep-ocean pressure protection.
Mineral reinforcement can form around the helmet while preserving its visor and breathing fittings.
SURVEY AND DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT
Portable surveying instruments, structural sensors, a rugged tablet, and conventional inspection tools support engineering assessments beyond the reach of his contact-based perception.
CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT
Excavation machinery, lifting equipment, transport vehicles, prefabricated components, and conventional supplies support his work.
His abilities supplement an organized construction operation. They do not replace every worker, vehicle, specialist trade, or material shipment.
PREPARED MINERAL STOCK
Selected field vehicles carry suitable aggregate and prepared mineral blocks for deployments where local material may be unsuitable.
These reserves are finite and require transport.
OPERATIONS DEPOT
His fortified facility outside Timbuktu contains workshops, construction stores, vehicle maintenance areas, survey records, and expedition equipment supporting regional investigations.
