History

History

Gage Connors was a normal boy growing up in Northern California in the 1990s.  He joined Cub Scouts and eventually moved on to being a Boy Scout. He loved camping, hiking and learning how to live off the land. He also discovered he had a skill in archery, a skill that his Scoutmaster helped hone with the help of a friend of the Scoutmaster who participated (but lost (4th place)) in the archery competitions in the Olympics. At the age of 14, Gage had already won local, regional and state youth archery award competitions, making him one of the best teenage archers in the state. That all changed with the Soltan Star Empire invaded Earth in January of 2000.

Gage and his parents had a time-share (shared/scheduled place to stay) in San Francisco for the holidays. The day that they were supposed to drive back home to Redding, California, the Soltans invaded. The Connors hunkered down in the time-share home, hoping to 'wait out' the invasion, but that didn't happen. Soltan ground troops eventually scoured the streets looking to capture humans to be made as slaves. Sadly, Gage's parents, Jordan and Maria, sacrificed themselves to save Gage from being found by the Soltans. Using the sewers, Gage was able to hide and/or stay hidden from the Soltans for most of the invasion. As such, Gage learned how to fend for himself by stealing, hunting and surviving in and about the city. Eventually, he made his way out of the city and into the more wooded areas to the north of San Francisco.  By that time (around August 2000), Earth's forces had finally driven off the Soltans from Earth...a boon for the citizens of the world, but hardly a benefit for the parentless, homeless Gage.

Over the next few years, with hundreds of thousands of people needing food, shelter and jobs, homeless camps sprung up everywhere. The food rationing was violent, with criminal elements stealing the food and supplies from the homeless while also killing the homeless just for fun. Gage couldn't stand watching the atrocities occur before him in his homeless camps and actually attempted to stop the criminals. At first, he got beaten up pretty bad, but once he found an old thrown-away bow with a quiver full of arrows in a landfill, he used them to fight against the criminals, eventually driving off the criminals and saving countless homeless lives. He became a focus for the camp, since he was one of the few that actually could hunt deer, rabbit and animals to help feel the people in the camps. In time he picked up the name "Sharpshooter".

Over the next couple of decades, Gage battled and fought to protect the innocent homeless from the criminal elements, usually scaring away the criminals, but on quite a few occasions, getting beat down himself. He eventually met other 'like minded' homeless folks with skills, gadgets and/or unique abilities.  Those few became a loosely banded group calling themselves "The Trodden"; a group that, when needed, were there to help out the 'bigger' problems against the homeless, such as crime cartels, sex/drug trafficking rings and child abductions.

Gage roams about the San Francisco region, helping where he can, only asking for some food as any form of payment, but only if the food is readily available.  He's become a folk legend to the homeless of San Francisco.  He doesn't promote for people to stay homeless, but instead tries to help others 'rise above' homelessness and get back on their own feet.  He has hundreds of contacts with charitable organizations, churches, non-profits and other benevolent societies. He does not, however, support, aid or promote 'big business' practices nor their 'insensitive and ignorant' attempts to help the homeless, and has stated so many times over (his experiences with the Harmony Foundation and Zenith Labs are critical towards this).

Today, the "Homeless Archer" (as the media calls him; 'Homeless Archer saves woman from sex traffickers', 'Homeless Archer helps feed dozens by hunting legal game in the local state parks', etc.) continues to provide protection, support and assistance for the homeless people of the San Francisco region and, as best he can, the outer lying townships and areas.

The Homeless Archer is a gentle soul, but a force of nature when he is focused on something. He believes in fending for one's self and is helpful in getting people the help they need, but if they decline or spurn his help or assistance, he doesn't have much compassion for them thereafter. He has a mind like a steel trap and remembers names readily. He has a list of names of homeless that have been victims to crime and inaction of others and is more than willing to speak that list readily. He isn't preachy and is more of a man of few words but more with actions. He is terse with the financially 'gifted' who don't at least try to help to make a difference or try to understand the true nature of the homeless.

Even though the Homeless Archer's skills could make him a mainstream superhero, he deigns not to even be considered 'a hero'. He would rather live a homeless life, wandering from camp to camp, helping others rather than "sell his soul" to any company, corporation or hero group.
