History

New York City has stories...stories of triumph, stories of struggle, stories of sadness...and stories of justice. The Knightshift is a New York story of justice...but not in the way that brands those of Knightshift as 'heroes'.

In the past decade, New York City has been besieged with crime, super villain battles, evil organizations, gangs and sadly, the innocents caught in the crosshairs.  With the police departments and superheroes regulated into inaction by politicians, influential strategists and legal wranglings, crime grew at exponential levels. Innocents were being robbed by rival gangs, gunfights erupted in the streets over drugs and territory, evil businesses fire-bombed their competition and with the ones tasked with dealing with these issues became hamstrung instead of supported, the villainy continued to grow...in most cases, unchecked.

An ex-police officer turned vigilante known as the "Chief Justiciar" organized other vigilantes and vigilante-like gangs to work together for the betterment of the city's population. The difference between what Chief Justiciar's crew did and what the police and superheroes did was that Chief Justiciar's crew didn't follow the laws that protected the criminals...instead, the criminals received vigilante justice, some of the time...deadly justice.

Chief Justiciar formed his band of vigilantes he now called "Knightshift" into a cohesive team that followed certain rules and guidelines of the law, but did so with the intent of saving lives and protecting the innocent. If push came to shove though, the bad guys might face death...or worse.

With the authorities, superheroes and the criminal elements all gunning for Knightshift, their allies are few and their enemies, great. They've since had to hide out in New York City sewers to mask their operations. They have many people in the communities willing to help them and provide whatever means of 'payment' or 'gratitude' they can muster to get this band of vigilantes what they need to help stop the spread of crime, corruption and loss of life in their neighborhoods.

Today, the Knightshift is considered a lawless, criminal vigilante gang by the authorities and politicians, a stop-gap method of justice to the police and first responders...and for some of the people in the NYC boroughs - heroes of mercy. They operate in the night, patrolling for danger and crime, looking to keep the streets safe once again. Should a criminal be caught by the Knightshift, it is known that if they escape without severe hospitalization or with their lives, that said criminals are indeed lucky and most likely might want to change turn their lives around, because if they are found again doing crimes by Knightshift, they most likely will survive. For the Knightshift, it's two-strikes...and your permanently out...or at least given the opportunity to confess their criminal sins and plead guilty to any and all charges against them and live out their lives in prison instead.

It seems most criminals, after encountering the Knightshift just once, seem to have a change of heart about their 'criminal career' and do whatever they can to not only escape the city, but to change their lives for the better knowing that their next encounter with the Knightshift could be...terminally disastrous.

Beware, criminals of New York City...Knightshift is hunting for YOU!
