Esteban (no last name ever given) had been a gang member in the Talaxaca, Mexico area as far back as he could remember

 

An abandoned child who had no memories of his parents, Esteban hooked up with a couple of teen gangs, learning how to fight, use knives, run and steal. By age 10, he was one of the best.  In each of his early gangs, he and his fellow gang members were chased out of Talaxaca with many even being killed by a new upstart gang called "The Purple Gang".  He saw that the young leader, a boy named Lorenzo Ramirez, was a deadly boy to cross, yet if you showed him respect, he returned it...and usually your life. Esteban was one such boy who was the recipient of Ramirez' mercy and respect when seven of Esteban's fellow gang members encircled Ramirez to stab and kill him; Esteban put a stop to it and said it was only fair that either Ramirez was given a knife to defend himself or that the fight should be a one-on-one. Esteban's fellow street rats gave Ramirez a knife, for which Ramirez fought all seven and was able to escape, shooting a quick salute to Esteban for his civility.  That would one day make the difference between life and death for Esteban.

 

With the Purple Gang being the #1 rival of the current top gang, Death's Head, Esteban figured it'd be best to hook up with them to improve his chances and test himself even more.  Within a year, he became a Death's Head lieutenant after pulling off some incredible thefts and fighting up to two dozen men brilliantly in the interim. The one thing Esteban wasn't into about the Death's Hand gang was the the gang was all about fear, killing and control, nothing by which Esteban considered important to him...yet, he remained with them until a better opportunity arose.

In 1990, the Purple Gang was assaulted by the Death's Hand gang.  Half of the Purple Gang were viciously murdered in what would later be named as the "Night of Purple Death". The Purple Gang's bodies were left dead or half dead strung up on light and telephone poles throughout Telaxaca's city streets and roads, all cut up or shot, some even eviscerated. Esteban, who did fight with at least a certain thieves coe of honor against other Purple Gang members, was appalled at the brutal degradation that Death's Hand performed with the Purple Gang's defeated members. It made Esteban sick to his stomach. Esteban knew he couldn't remain with Death's Hand anymore and began to walk out of town when he saw Lorenzo Ramirez hanging from a telephone pole, half dead.  Lorenzo hung there mutilated and dying along with a couple of other 'barely alive' Purple Gang members on adjacent poles. 

 

Esteban, who went by the street name of 'Young Scorpion' with Death's Head, in an act of empathy, cut down Lorenzo and the two other Purple Gang members before they could be seen or caught. Esteban, then took the three freed Purple Gang members to a 'Doctors without Borders' station 15 miles outside of the town that had been set up by the United Nations.  There, Lorenzo and his two fellow gang members went in for surgery. Only Lorenzo survived; the other two's injuries were too severe. Esteban stayed at the U.N. station, intending to take Lorenzo with him away from Talaxaca in a hope of saving Lorenzo's life from the Death's Hand gang.

 

With Lorenzo's body found missing from his 'death pole', Death's Hand performed a cruel and deadly search throughout Talaxaca. It didn't take long before the Doctors without Borders United Nations compound was surrounded by the Death's Hand gang.  The few U.N. troops that were there were too few to take on the Death's Hand gang, but maintained a security perimeter nonetheless. Esteban knew there was no way to escape the compound, and as such, feared that today was the die he was finally going to die.

 

After about a 2 hour stand-off wherein the doctors did not produce Lorenzo to the Death's Hand gang, the leader of the Death's Hand gang, Ruis Lanzana AKA "Death's Hand", told the doctors that they were all going to die just to save a worthless, thieving street rat. That's when Esteban emerged from the shadows before Ruis and told Ruis that 'Lorenzo was worth 10 of Ruis' and that Ruis should enjoy his victory over the Purple Gang and call off the slaughter before anyone else got hurt. Ruis laughed at Esteban and called him a traitor and a coward for his words and swore to personally gut Esteban before the night was done. With that, Ruis ordered his Death's Hand gang to kill everyone in the compound and retrieve Lorenzo. That's when the townsfolks showed up with the remnants of the Purple Gang and several other gangs outside the area.

 

In an epic 3-to-1 fight, the Talaxaca townsfolks, the UN troops, Esteban, Lorenzo, the remaining Purple Gang members and the other outlying gang members faced off and took down the Death's Hand gang in mere minutes. Esteban himself killed Ruis without suffering a single injury to himself. Sadly, dozens of Talaxaca townsfolks and the outlying gang members died that day, yet the doctors and staff were saved, as was Lorenzo. During the fight, Lorenzo took a bullet to save a rival small gang leader during the fight. After the fight was done, the people of Talaxaca asked for one favor in return from Lorenzo: leave the town be. They wanted Lorenzo to let the people of Talaxaca not live in fear of gang violence or theft ever again and the gangs could 'operate' from the region so long as they didn't bother or affect others in the city. If Lorenzo didn't abide by this, the city of Talaxaca would instead rise up and kill every one of the remaining gang members, even if it meant the death of the entire city's populace. Lorenzo looked over to Esteban and asked Esteban if he himself thought this was the right thing to do (side with the people of Talaxaca). Esteban agreed with the town. Lorenzo then asked for Esteban to be his #2 from here out to ensure that what was wrought that day would never get as far as it did every again. Esteban agreed and became "El Scorpio".

 

Lorenzo, on behalf of the other gangs, agreed to the terms of the townsfolks and signed a written document to that effect called the Talaxaca Pact.  With that, the other gang members united under one leader, Lorenzo, and thus was formed 'The Talaxaca Cartel'. The gang in alignment with the pact, operated outside of the city and would never rob, steal, swindle or hurt anyone in the city unless is was in direct aggression or enactment upon the cartel itself or its members. As such, the new Talaxaca Cartel, with El Scorpio as the #2, became a powerful yet honorable crime organization unto itsself.

 

For the next 10 years, the Talaxaca Cartel did as they said they would. They operated outside the city, however, they were allowed to live in the city, so long as they paid taxes and even voted in elections.  The cartel did, however, expand their reach of criminal activities well into Mexico prime though. During that time, many other rival gangs in other cities fought the Talaxaca Cartel. Some were even stupid enough to attempt to fight and hurt innocent people in Talaxaca (for which said gang members were not only killed, but their families were killed for the 'sins of the gang members' as well). Talaxaca became a safe haven against crime and anarchy.  The local police, for the most part, took care of the townsfolks and allowed the Talaxaca Cartel to operate without issue or concern, acting more like community counselors than actually maintaining any law and order.  In time, the Talaxaca Cartel rose to take on over 60% of Mexico's criminal operations, which had now expanded into drugs (the big money maker at the time) and military grade weapons. El Scorpio was doing great in his role; tough, yet not mean; fair, but not soft; rich, yet not a millionaire. He was happy with his role, so much so that he finally found a girl to fall in love with. He never told anyone her name.  She became pregnant and gave birth to his son, Miguel, on November 1st (All Saints Day) in 1999.  He was never happier. As fate would have it, that's when everything fell due to an alien empire invading Earth.

 

In 2000, Earth was invaded by the Soltan Star Empire. The Soltans sent tens of thousands of troops out against Central America. A Soltan Infantry Company (of about 250 troops) were left in charge of Talaxaca. The police were killed within minutes of the Soltan military company's entrance into town, leaving its innocent citizens to be gathered as cattle for slave labor and culling. That's when the Talaxaca Cartel went into action.  El Scorpio knew the town and the region perfectly. He knew every sewer line, cave, alley and secret weapons stash in the region. As a result, he was able to evacuate nearly 1,000 of its innocent children, women and elderly out to caves in the nearby mountains, out of range of the Soltan's sensors on their ship that constantly hovered over the town, all except his fiancee and his son, Miguel. Both she and Miguel had been to the doctor in the neighboring town when the invasion happened. Weeks into the invasion, Esteban found his fiancee's body amongst a pile to be buried. His son, Miguel, however, was taken care of by an elderly couple that survived the onslaught and gave Miguel back to Esteban. Esteban returned to Talaxaca with his son Miguel, wherein Lorenzo swore on his life to ensure Miguel's safety. Lorenzo sent Miguel and several other children the gang's lieutenants to an old yet massive and operational Cold War Bomb shelter at an old ex-Mexican government official who'd long since died. There, Miguel and the other children remained safe until the end of the Soltan Invasion.

 

For the next few months, the Talaxaca Cartel constantly picked off the Soltans one by one. Eventually, the Talaxaca townsfolks and the Cartel joined forces and brought down an alien ship near the city followed by a brave storming of the town's Soltan embattlements, all led by Lorenzo and El Scorpio. In the end, the Soltans were wiped out in Talaxaca, but at the cost of nearly 832 lives (almost 3 times that of the Soltan company complement).  Nonetheless, the Soltans were defeated in Talaxaca thanks to the cartel and its citizens.

The Soltans never returned for the rest of the invasion.

Within days after this, Esteban was reunited with his son, wherein Lorenzo was asked to become Miguel's godfather; Lorenzo, who'd never cried in his life, cried tears of happiness that day and happily agreed to become Miguel's godfather from that day forth, swearing the he'd be the best godfather a boy could ever have.

​

In 2005, Talaxaca rebuilding was completed. Lorenzo and El Scorpio) were named heroes for their efforts in not only stopping the invaders in Talaxaca , but for also compensating the families for their human losses during the invasion and helping fund the rebuilding of the city (using the sales of pillaged tech from the town's downed Soltan ship on the Black Market). Esteban continued to work with Lorenzo, even so far as becoming the director of operations for Central America. Although Lorenzo got more accolades than Esteban, Esteban didn't care; he now had an additional responsibility to his life: raising his son Miguel over the last 15 years.  Miguel attended the best private schools as well as learn to be the best combatant in marital arts, fighting and weapons. Miguel wanted to get into the family business and with El Scorpio's permission, Miguel was allowed to work on his father's team and rise up through the ranks as any other member of the Talaxaca Cartel would be expected to do.

In 2010, The Talaxaca Cartel had grown so fast and so large that other criminal organizations began to take note. After unsuccessful negotiations were performed by the Aegis Alliance's coalition to non-violently take over the Talaxaca Cartel, the Talaxaca Cartel War began on 13 October 2010. Miguel was immediately sent to a safe house in Los Angeles, California in the United States, where he continued his education and training, even though Miguel wanted nothing more than to be in the thick of the fighting. Esteban, however, was in the thick of the fighting.  After months of fighting and thousands of dead, the Talaxaca Cartel was nearly obliterated. Esteban had to knock Lorenzo unconscious and have him taken to Los Angeles to his son's safe house location with several other remaining Lieutenants and there families to lay low and hide out until things were safe again for them to come out of hiding. Lorenzo was not happy with Esteban's actions, but respected Esteban for his logical choice. As such Talaxaca was nothing more than a bombed-out war zone city littered with hundreds of dead bodies; a harbinger of what was to become of the Talaxaca Cartel.

 

Sadly, 'El Scorpio' stayed behind to lead the few remaining cartel combatants only to die in Talaxaca as a result of a grenade launcher's direct impact. Miguel, El Scorpio's son, was with Lorenzo in Los Angeles, as safe as could be, however, Miguel's father's death was a massive blow to Miguel; a blow that eventually led to revenge and him taking over his father's legacy as the new El Scorpio (El Scorpio II) in what would later be the new Crimewave cartel.

 

In time, after Talaxaca was rebuilt brick-by-brick, monuments and statues were put of of Esteban's "El Scorpio", lauding his as a hero and a savior both during the Soltan Invasion and during the Talaxaca Cartel War.  Fresh flowers are still placed at a memorial at the center of town every day in memory of him.
