History

The history of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves is a tale as old as time - and is now a modern-day, 21st century tale as well.

Although there have been many 'wanna be' 40 Thieves gangs in  the last few hundred years, they were never of any caliber; usually street thugs and poorly organized assassins.  That all changed after the Soltan Invasion of 2000

In the aftermath of the Soltan Invasion, theft and robbery was abundant in the Arabian region.  One  man named Dawid, took control of several gangs and created a new '40 Thieves' gang. He trained them mercilessly and in return, their training awarded them incredible wealth and status. The governmental authorities chased the 40 Thieves to the western desert of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). There, Dawid was able to use old Arabian magical relics he'd stolen to open up a hidden base in the sand dunes of the desert.

This hidden desert base was the original hideout of the original historic Ali Baba and his 40 Thieves.

There, in the ancient hidden home of the 40 Thieves, more treasure and magical artifacts were found.  There, they hid until it was safe to resume their spree of thievery.  Eventually, some of the thieves believed they'd earned enough and quit the guild, never to be heard of or seen again.  Others, however, honed their thieving skills to even greater degrees, thus making the 40 Thieves even more infamous in their operations.

Not too long ago, Dawid and 25 of his thieves raided a rich UAE Sheik named Sharif Shukr and the Sheik's family compound. There, Sharif was killed by Dawid, but not before Sharif took out one of Dawid's eyes.  Sharif's son, surprisingly, was found to have the power to transform into sand.  The boy attempted to stop Dawid, but was unsuccessful. Dawid, instead, took in the boy and through years of abuse and 40 Thieves training, turned him into one of his 40 Thieves naming him Mansur and and considered him to be his new adopted son. Mansur (now known as the hero Sandlance), betrayed him and the guild a few years ago, almost decimating the 40 Thieves gang once and for all.

Today, Dawid and the 40 Thieves guild is back and with a vengeance. Dawid continues leading the guild, while amongst the (far more than) 40 Thieves, a new collection of super-powered operatives and slaves have been recruited to do Dawid's bidding. Dawid has put a hefty 'mark' out on his betraying adopted son, Mansur, while in the meantime, the legend of Dawid and the new 40 Thieves guild continues to grow and expand, extending their reach not only to all corners of Arabia, but now, to the world.
